Awesome video! Those huge articulated tractors and the combines were really cool! I didn’t know that they mowed the ground after the crop has been harvested. I love John Deere equipment. Really enjoyed it!

Not all farms run a mower over the field after harvest. Many just chisel plow to mix the residue back into the ground so that it can begin to break down.

Mowing the headland edges has maybe more to do with cutting stalks to protect tires in the high traffic headlands, no?
@bigtractorpower4 жыл бұрын
It does not they only make 20 foot pass around the field they’re just trying to knock the edges of the tree lines and grass edges back.

I enjoy watching these videos a great deal, but I'm wondering exactly how the kernels are separated from the cob? Is this corn for livestock or people? Thanks much
@calebalt15574 жыл бұрын
This is for livestock abd ethanol most likely. If I’m correct, the grain goes through the header, then into the feeder house, which then pushes it into the rotor, which basically beats the grain off the cob, and then the sieves clean the grain and it goes into the graintank and the stalks and cobs are thrown back into the field. I think, someone let me know if they think I am wrong.
@idavol4 жыл бұрын
Lot of corn in western Kentucky is used for popcorn too. They call it big corn.

Hi Jason, thanks for this nice video. It's very exciting to see how this farm is opening up a new field. Do you know the size of this field? For me it looks pretty huge.
@millardhayes18844 жыл бұрын
Wonder what the average bushels are thus far.
@tf72744 жыл бұрын
With that much gear I'd want to be well above 200 bu...we run less $$ in harvesting gear than the one grain cart shown in the video...and I expect 180bu dry...
@RyTrapp04 жыл бұрын
At this point, I'm wondering when they're going to start putting grain cart-sized unloading augers on combines. Headers keep getting bigger, machine capacity/field speeds keep increasing, grain tanks keep getting larger - correct me if I'm wrong, but it really seems like the major bottleneck for harvesting right now is the combine unloading time, cutting that down by 25-50% would certainly speed up grain cart cycle times and give them a little more flexibility Great video, LOVE seeing the way different operations approach the same problems in ways that fit their collection of equipment
@paulreed63404 жыл бұрын
Well they already unload pretty fast. In my experience if there is a bottleneck it's usually with the trucking. Hard to get 250 bushel corn away from the field and get the trucks back fast enough.
@carsonaustin33284 жыл бұрын
@@paulreed6340 that really depends on size of the farm, the yield of the crop, the amount of combines/header width and the amount of semis you have. We have 2 semis, a grain cart, and a couple of wagons and the combine almost never stops
@Cattleman03114 жыл бұрын
You have to take into account the amount of weight that there is on an extended unloading auger that is 26-28.5 feet long. The amount of support that would be required to double the output would be insane.

Do they just mow the edges of the fields? That's what we do
@michaelwest43254 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. I cannot recall seeing a mower run in a field and I have seen fields with big swathes of grass instead of corn throughout the field. Would it be of value to mow that down?
@ILikeDoritos4564 жыл бұрын
Do the yellow beacons on the combines signal to the grain cart drivers when the machine needs to be unloaded?

Dumb question, does the batwing mower mulch the whole field after harvest
@bigtractorpower4 жыл бұрын
Good question. No they just mow the outside 20ft to clean up the edge of the field. They no till winter wheat over the stalks.

Main line production is 620 hp which the farm in this video uses some 9620Rs as well. In 2021 AGCO will offer 670 Hp tractors which means red and green won’t be far behind to have 670 hp tractors.
