I am happy to see that you know when to put some bikes in the scrap metal bin. I volunteered at a local bicycle collective for a while. At one point we filled a dead passenger van full of useless bikes and parts then sent it to the recycler. One woman at the collective got super angry that we scrapped all of this crap. She told me I was an elitist. She knew next to nothing about bicycles and she thought everything was valuable. I no longer volunteer there because I believed that the bikes we worked on should leave the shop safe and reliable. Guess that makes me an elitist. I hope all of the scrap became good rebar.

Omg. I bought 1of those at a yard sale for $10 put a motor on it and rode it 20miles a day to get back and forth to work for a few years until building my VW.. it's still in the barn and still runs 😂

That sounds like fun :) And I believe I also paid a whopping tenner for this bicycle. But I do hope your VW bus is also running.

Rod brakes are much older technology than 1980's. I remember seeing them on my fathers and grandfathers bikes when I was growing up in 1960's. Even though there is a 80 stamp, could that have been the size in cm? Never seen a BB like that either

Curiosity killed the Gazelle! ….As a sissy bicycle freak, it’s good to know the pieces are recycled!

This makes no sense. There was no justification whatsoever for destroying that perfectly good bicycle frame. Just hold the axle on the flat section with a wrench then undo the large nut holding the business together. See how easy that was?

So. This is really a bicycle Shit Show. I always wondered what one looked like, and now I know!

You are correct. That is Thompson BB common on many German bicycles.. a cross between an American and a European BB..

I am not sure why you didn’t save that Gazelle. The Dutch are renowned artists…and destructive engineers😊
