Cool video. You should put leather grease mostly underneath the saddle. Just thin layer on top. Once a year is enough, because too much grease too often makes the leather too soft and it stretches.

The ding dong bell is the way to go. Very challenging to find here in Vancouver. I finally found one listed online locally. She hadn't sold one for ten years and I picked up the last one she had in stock. More often than not, when I make use of it, people look up and smile. The locals are generally a sour bunch so it is quite the accomplishment. I still hope to find one of the brass ding dong bells that I came to love the sound of. Those are truly a delight to hear. Quite exceptional.

I got a question for you? I was given a Brooks saddle that somebody didn't want because the leather was cracked. I was going to contact Brooke to see if I can get a repaired but they don't do leather repairs 😢 if you want it I'd be glad to give it to you. Or hell anybody that reads this. I really don't want it to go in the dumpster and you seem like you could do the right thing.

I am sure you found out that the brake arm is on the left side and the cog is on the right side. If not you will find it out when the bottom bracket is installed. I like your videos because you don't take things too serious. After all a bike is a bike is a bike! And feeding the chickens takes priority anyway.

Congratulations. In Ukraine, there are a lot of bicycles with such rear bushings. They are basically Chinese copies of this Shimano hub. There are ball bearings (smaller and larger) on sale. But the small cone cannot be found (there is an incomprehensible threat). The price of these ball bearings is 0.3 euros per piece, and a whole new Chinese bushing of the same type is 8 euros.

You brake on the grease. When normal grease is compressed it turns into liquid. So they use high them grease so it keeps it thickness so you can brake.

At 29:20 there are generally 9 balls assembled in a small steel cage or 11 free balls like you found, it must have been already rebuilt one time. When the ball races are a little worn, 11 balls is a better solution. Just a little play will break the small steel cages and the dirt and water coming from the saddle open tube and sides doesn't help. Balls are common Ø 1/4" = 6.35 mm.

I like to find brake levers that are somewhere between short pull and long pull for these brakes to work best. There used to be adjustable pull ones available, but I don't know where to get them anymore.

The rear wheel truing is more complicated, so-called dishing could be problematic, in one case of DT Swiss alu wheel I could not keep the recommended spoke tension, because it affected dishing, and it didn't set correctly in the frame (chainstays)

Rod brakes are much older technology than 1980's. I remember seeing them on my fathers and grandfathers bikes when I was growing up in 1960's. Even though there is a 80 stamp, could that have been the size in cm? Never seen a BB like that either

Lacing is a pain when things go wrong, but I've not had the misfortune of the nipples not fitting. It is logical with different gauge spokes requiring different sized nipples. Hopefully you can drill out the spoke holes & start again?

Some rims are opposite left to right so you have to mirror the whole process. The bigger flange will need shorter spokes in order for the wheel to be dished correctly. Look up Sheldon's spoke guides.

I use water to remove grips, just get a screwdriver deep in there and splash water in. I think the hub has a worn or rusted cam, so the brake will no disengage completely. Maybe the spring is broken?

I am happy to see that you know when to put some bikes in the scrap metal bin. I volunteered at a local bicycle collective for a while. At one point we filled a dead passenger van full of useless bikes and parts then sent it to the recycler. One woman at the collective got super angry that we scrapped all of this crap. She told me I was an elitist. She knew next to nothing about bicycles and she thought everything was valuable. I no longer volunteer there because I believed that the bikes we worked on should leave the shop safe and reliable. Guess that makes me an elitist. I hope all of the scrap became good rebar.
