I am retired from a 20 yr law enforcement career and this is the most wonderful program I have ever heard about. These guys aren't dying alone and are treated with love and respect. It seems to have changed the lives of the inmates in the program and allows them to give back to others. God bless you all involved!

If you've never done it, spending time and talking and listening and just really making intimate connections with people who are in their last weeks or days, is sanctified work. To be able to bring comfort to a person that needs it, and his family is a gift, for both the dying person and for yourself. I didn't know, when I started visiting those who are dying, how much comfort I could bring to someone. And I didn't know how meaningful I would find it. It's not an easy thing to do, emotionally, but important things are like this are seldom easy. There are probably hospices and palliative care centres in your community. I would recommend that you all try volunteering at one of these places. You'll be glad you did.

My mom had home hospice and my brothers and I was there around the clock to take care of her. It lets the dying retain their dignity and humanity. It must especially be a comfort to know that you won't be alone when its your time to go.Hospice care should be part of all prisons and other types of institutions too.

Burl Cain is an amazing human being. This program needs to be replicated in ALL prisons across the country. He has completely turned things around at Angola. Turning it from the bloodiest prison in the country to now violence having dropped 73%! All by just treating these inmates like humans being and not animals. He gave them work to do. He brought bible college in so they could get their Bachelor's in Ministry. He started an agriculture program where they farm their own food. Construction program. They have a radio station. He has given certain freedom privledges to the certain trustee inmates that have earned that trust. He has done SO MUCH to turn this place around. ALL prison warden need to look up to him and replicate his methods!
@mookeychase090710 жыл бұрын
He deserves alot of credit for turning it into a place of compassion but not the whole prison. The Angola three with guys like "Life" (rip)had a great impact on the institution, therefore causing a reduction in rape murder and violence. They bridged the gap between black & white convicts educated them and gave them self esteem and made them realize how valuable their lives were. They also taught political awareness classes these cats did alot to educate and reform alotta convicts who had been given power by the guards. There were convicts carrying guns shooting guys and controlling the other convicts on the working details selling extorting and abusing other prisoners and were given the okay by the guards. Once these crimes started to cease the warden(not Cain but the former warden who is in prison for murder now) they began to target these individuals and they locked them up called them threats to the institution and used that to lock them down for years and years then the violence continued. Angola has a very sad history the things that were allowed to go on there were things that were unheard of in other maximum security prisons across the country. I like Cain he told the dudes "I can be as nice as you let me or as mean as you make me it's your choice" then alotta these dudes bought into it he bought hope into a place that was hopeless he deserves a Nobel peace prize...

yea because what are they gonna do? who they gonna robe who they gonna beat up or rape or kill. no one. I believe these crazt sentances are done in emotion at the time the emotion and the public saying they deserve to die in prison or even worse death penalty I do not believe in the death penalty at all because 1 2 wrongs don't make a right and to e its horrible enough we lost 1 life why lose another when we can help that person to become a nice reformed person but yes should serve 30 yrs behind prison walls. WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO MURDER THERE IS NO RIGHT REASON TO KILL ANYONE that's a moral stand point along with my religion stand point and I'm not even saying what religion I am theres many so lets what you guys come up with and a lot of reliogons feel the same way about murder. and also I believe that once you hit even 70s free them on their 70th birthday they served their time and had they not repented and asked the lord for forgivness and asked him to be their personal lord and savior then they will again have to answer for their wrong doings both for what sent them there and things they did wrong that wasn't illegal on earth but is in heaven heck ill tell you I follower Jesus Christ and I love him a lot and I believe he does forgive everyone who asks him to forgive no matter what they have done even murders rapers ANYONE they must ask that's all its simple. but you cant do all that once your dead and face to face with him you must do it while your alive on this earth because you must have faith he is real and heaven is real before you come face to face with him and it is even worse if you did believe but then something happened you stopped and its not that you stopped believeing in him you were so mad at him you simpley stopped serving him and you stopped telling others about him and his love for us and lost souls. that my friends will be much worse then not knowing him at all. this was not all for you but also others in general. the very first part was for you however.

Diagnoses and treatments are so bad they violate constitutional prohibitions against cruel and unusual punishments, she said."

Do they actually think they won’t get caught and have to face the consequences of there actions??!! Sadly the same mentality is here in the uk 🇬🇧 as the United States 🇺🇸 we need to somehow find self motivation and drive to do different regardless of upbringing and environment! Education is key and education is something that to a extent is free but for one reason or another learning is not cool and being in the street is ! I guess from family point of view, he should suffer too, You sure need a lot of forgiveness in your heart to let go of the loss of the example of the child I describe, to free yourself and understand. They didn't have a choice. FORGIVENESS IS THE ONLY ANSWER i suppose.

Not only does he did he develope these types of programs but instituted a system of privileges' that reward good behavior. Prisoners who have completed there life sentence should once again be looked at as FREE MEN. This includes those who's family does not want to take disposition of the body, they should symbolically be buried OUTSIDE of the prison walls as they have fulfilled their sentence.
