I see what they did now! So it really begins with "We start with a basic chord..." because you can see the cut there. Then he went through the whole thing, reading the close into the intro.

I have played by ear over 50 years. But I love all your transitions, substitutions added bass notes etc. I see all the chords scrolling across the page. Do you have practice sheets of all these “warm ups” I can see how practical practicing them in very key will make it easy to fill them on plain sheet music and key transpositions and stuff. I just subscribed as you guys are the first that’s making sense and showing your theory instead of talking about it. What a blessing you men are. I started out on bass because I quit piano lessons because it was too boring as a 2nd grader. Man I would have paid attention to youse guys. Thank you

@@Ruigi01 My pleasure. Learning to play jazz is a life long task. Start with root tones in the bass. Alternate between the 1 and 5 of each chord. E.g. for a C chord you'd play a C then G. For B, you'd play B and E, etc. This 1-5 motion works well. Aside, a great resource is youtuber, Rick Beato.

Hey guitar player here new to jazz, love the content and tend to find that piano players (and the piano itself) really help visualizing music theory better than someone on guitar. So I’ve been taking exercises like this and applying it to guitar. My question is, I often hear jazz musicians say “play music not exercises” because simply working scales or chord exercises aren’t music. How do you take things through all twelve keys on the piano and still have enough practice time? I find that when I try to do something in all twelve keys, it takes at least 20-30 minutes on guitar. This means if I try to practice several things in 12 keys as most people recommend, it takes up half or more of my practice time just for exercises. Have you run into a similar problem and if so how do you approach it?
@seancullen8142 Жыл бұрын
May not be the answer you're looking for, but in my opinion, practicing in all 12 keys on the guitar is somewhat pointless exercise because the scale shaped are all the same no matter which key you're in. Maybe it would be better to just practice the exercises on keys that start on different strings. Maybe take C maj on the E string, D maj on the A string and F on the D string for example? Then you'll have to find different chord shapes to play and explore different parts of the neck. Hope this helps!

It's like a Steely Dan Mu only in this case he's playing the first inversion and the Root and M2 as a major second. Steely Dan puts the M2 and M3 chord intervals as a major second and probably in root position. Mu: 1-(2-3)-5-1 or maybe 5-(2-3)-6 Moo:3-5-(1-2)-5 or 5-(1-2)-6-1-3
