Danceteria was a well-known four-floor nightclub located in New York City which operated from 1979 until 1986 (and in the Hamptons until 1995). Throughout its history, the club had seven different locations, three in NYC and four in the Hamptons. The second, most famously at 30 West 21st Street in Manhattan, served as the location for the disco scene in the film Desperately Seeking Susan. The first Danceteria was opened on West 37th Street by Rudolf Pieper and talent booker Jim Fouratt.

I love Nina's vocal talents; from her chain saw growl to multi-octave angelic lilt, her voice BECOMES a musical instrument in itself. Years ago I saw her (of all places) on TV's David Letterman doing the most surreal interview ever, at one point, "confiding" to listeners that she was an extraterrestrial. David Letterman didn't know how to respond, and I was overwhelmed by a feeling of "being in the right place at the right time. A spiritual gift, for sure.

The Mudd Club was a TriBeCa nightclub that was opened in October 1978 by Steve Mass, art curator Diego Cortez and Anya Phillips, a figure in the downtown punk scene. The Mudd Club, located at 77 White Street in downtown Manhattan, quickly became a major fixture in the city's underground music and counterculture scene, until it closed in 1983. (The Mudd Club was named after Samuel Alexander Mudd, a doctor who treated John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln's assassination.)

Well, let's not forget, German is her native language. But English-speaking musicians used to sing some of their material in German as well. F.i. the Beatles sang a German version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" ("Komm gib mir deine Hand"), but that was only in the beginning of their musical career.

As a matter of fact part of the German album contains linguistically mixed phrases ("Mir ist es lieb when the TV's on.") - and I'd like to hear the English version of "Zarah". The German song is a hilarious parody of Zarah Leander, a Swedish singer who decided to build her career on a close collaboration with some of the worst Nazi criminals.
