Great tutorial! Just two things I’d like to mention. First is it would be a good idea to keep the default lan port rather than switch it. If you ever need to reset your router to default, you wont need to replug everything. Second is after installing, you can use luci web configuration right away. Thanks for the great content. Keep it up!

Good point and thanks for the feedback. OpenWRT give you full root access and you can customize everything according to your usage. However, to make thing simple for beginner, I didn't change the ifname on OpenWRT and swap the cable to another network port on the router PC. You can use Luci to configure as long as the cable is connected to the correct LAN port, but imagine your router PC has more than 2 ports, you may need to figure out what is the WAN port and what are the LAN ports. I believe that most of the viewer of this video is new, so just some more information on CLI that could help them later on. (I has been using OpenWRT for more than 4 years but just started to work with CLI recently).

Hey, great job on the video! I've been watching a few of your videos and they're all great. I'm not a beginner with OpenWRT, but I have been looking around for some good videos to watch about it. I've been looking for a new firewall server because mine is quite loud. The one I'm using is an HP Proliant ML110g7 which has good specs, and dual nics, but it is very loud under regular use. What is the one you are using in these videos? Did you build it or does it come built?

Does this come with a web interface and all of the wireless device drivers built in? Or is this just the very beginning and you have to add all those items manually? Is squashfs better for install to USB and less writes to the filesystem? I don't think the video really covered why the EXT4 vs quashfs choice rather than the size limitation. Thanks!

Thank you for showed how to set up x86 PC installation! However, I have a couple questions. I've been experienced using OpenWRT on my Netgear R7800 with SQM on. It worked very well, but I never tried it on x86 PC. I'm planning to turn my old Ryzen 1700X with an intel 4 ports nic card into a router since I already got a 3700X. Is there any tutorial about how to install OpenWRT image into a 64GB SSD permanently? I'm a bit fairly average with linux terminal, so I'm still learning.

Hi! I would like to ask some questions. 1. It's not compulsory to use USB sticks to make it a bootable drive for OpenWrt right? Any other methods than that? 2. If I want to install OpenWrt on my running file sharing server, must I backup all the files in it before doing that? As I seemed to see that it says writing image files will delete the contents inside the drive. If so, how I can do it in the proper way? Thank you!
@VanTechCorner
@VanTechCorner Жыл бұрын
1. You can install OpenWRT on HDD/SSD/eMMC storage and it should work just fine. On my channel there is a video guide for hard drive installation, you can take a look. The video can be outdated, but the link to the official docs on the video description should be up-to-date 2. I don't really understand your question....Maybe you can read through the way to install OpenWRT first.

@@VanTechCorner Hi, thanks for replying again! 1. Did you tried installing Windows Server (any version is fine) instead of Finnix? 2. I have a PC running Windows server which we used as file sharing over users in the company. But if i would like to install OpenWRT for experimental purposes (or for general monitoring), must I backup all the data inside? I heard installing the image directly to it may format the drive.
@VanTechCorner
@VanTechCorner Жыл бұрын
1. Are you talking about install OpenWRT into the hard drive? If yes, any OS will work just fine, as long as it allow you to write the OpenWRT image to the hard drive 2. For experimental purposes, you don't need to install it on the hard drive. OpenWRT will boot from the USB or microSD card and after that it is running on RAM. You can just unplug your hard drive from the server to be sure. However, if you are running some type of RAID, don't touch it.

@@VanTechCorner Sorry for the late reply. 1. Great video. Thanks a lot. My only criticism is in regards to your accent which, due to your native language, "swallows" many consonants, many phonemes and most of word endings. The next two lines is how you sound to me and, believe me, I have to turn on a "fill in the blanks" engine in my brain in order to understand what you mean. Le me ri on senense or to jus to sho yu wo difficu it is fo me unesan you. Yo swal the "D"s and "T"s of man wor. Yo al swal th end of ma wo. Super challenging! I hope you take this criticism as my humble contribution for better videos in future. The technical content and quality is already great. You "just" need to improve the pronunciation, which is easily said than done... I know.

Hi, this video was recorded around 2 years ago. Can you check the recent videos and advise if there is any improvement on this?

@richardgomes5420 2 жыл бұрын
@@VanTechCorner Hi. Thank you so much for your reply. Your channel is really a golden pot of interesting stuff. I was watching a recent video of a 2.5Gb network card. Really nice! Regarding the pronunciation, I can clearly hear that you are speaking with pauses and pronouncing definitely better. I was able to understand everything, despite that you are still "swallowing" consonants or even entire phonemes. Man, your native language will live with you forever. The only way to improve (by my experience and some other people's experiences too) is when you start to mock native English speakers. It's like if you were trying to bully them, making the same funny sounds they do, trying to mock the way they speak just for fun... pure mockery... but, what happens is that... the more you mock them, the more they say your pronunciation is improving. I know that some Asian languages do not have P, F, R or L, or other consonants, depending on the language... so, it's difficult to pronounce something you've never pronounced before. In the West, we have German (and other Germanic languages) which are tricky to pronounce. When I was studying German with a native German speaker, the man said my pronunciation was very good... then I've told him that I was mocking Germans... trying to make the same sounds they make... and then he said: yes... that works! German is challenging because there are lots of sounds I don't have in my native language. German is really "rich" when it comes to phonemes. But back to my hint, hoping that I can help you somehow: Just "mock" native speakers, just try to make the same funny sounds they make. Man, it works! Once again, thanks a lot for your message and for your excellent channel. Kind regards. :-)

In the video below you can hear a German girl speaking several languages, playing with the idea of mocking the way they sound. She also speaks the same work in German, but employing a soft accent, which is not common in German. She has several videos talking about the challenges of "smoothing" her harsh German accent when she moved to the USA. You can compare her old videos with the new ones, where she absolutely dropped her original accent. Have fun! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnnIgKKlfbmqmbs
