I did as in the video (with ext4 and squashfs) but in the end my PC freezes on boot. It's an old Fujitsu Siemens with Q6600. When I moved the HDD on a Windows PC, it can't detect the hdd.

Hi can you share why ext4 should be used instead of squashfs? I see in this video squashfs could resize the partition to use the full hdd as well. To me i would prefer to be able to perform a factory reset of openwrt if possible

Do I need to wipe/format/partition the internal drive before using the "dd" command to install openWRT onto the disk? Or does "dd" wipe it for me?

How come my installation goes well but once I get to the “reboot” part, my pc does not know where to boot. When I go to bios, the original drive is missing and the only boot option I have is the usb with finnix. I can still see my ssd though from the info in bios.

I had the same issue. It was because I was using legacy image of OpenWRT. You need to download Efi image. The disk should then show up.

Yes it is, you just need to set a password by "passwd", after that "service ssh start" and then "ifconfig" to get your LAN IP address and use any of the SSH client to connect to it.

Hey, make sure that you downloaded the ext4-combined image and it should work.

Hi, I'm able to extend the device. But when i try to extend the FS with resize2fs it says that the tool can't find the superblock for this file system. I do point the start of sda2 as beginning of sda2 (33792 also in my case). After that, if i restart i get boot loop in GRUB phase. Am I missing something :?

@@VanTechCorner I managed to retry the procedure with the ext4.img and I've managed extend partition sda2 successfully. Now i only need to access the web GUI and i will have a router. Anyways, thx for the fast reply! : )

Great to hear that. Is there any problem stop you from accessing the GUI. There is also tutorial on setup a single network port OpenWRT router with VLAN, not sure if this is something you are looking for.

Surely you can, as long as we have the driver for the NIC. SSD would be great but any HDD will work just fine. In the video, I am using an old 60 GB SSD from Toshiba.

Hey, adding option ttylogin 1 to the system block in /etc/config/system will require passwords on the local keyboard.

Hi I was following your tutorial in 03.35 you download then write the squashfs image. Then in 07:20 expand the ext4 image. I had to start over as I followed the instructions exactly :(

Well, I am curious to know how you find this video, perhaps from Google/KZbin search? I made a simple video for "OpenWRT Live USB" where I used rufus to write the OpenWRT image to the USB drive, but you didn't watch that video. Instead, you asked on this "install OpenWRT on internal hard drive" why I didn't write the image directly to the USB. We can see there is no USB device here, the hard drive was connected to the PC with SATA cable and it is not removable. As you can see, this video is 12 minutes long, and I've spent at least more than two hour to complete it. The purpose is to share the knowledge, and not to judge anybody stupid or blind. OpenWRT mặc định không có fdisk hay resize2fs, video này chỉ làm cách đơn giản nhất để cài vào HDD, mình cũng theo tài liệu của openwrt. Còn với những ai đã biết rồi thì không cần giải thích nhiều, cách cài thì vô số.

Để cài bằng rufus trực tiếp lên SSD thì bạn cần có bộ chuyển từ USB sang SATA và cáp này bên ngoài bán rất rẽ. Tuy nhiên, nếu chỉ ghi file img lên SSD thì bạn cũng chỉ có 250 MB trống thôi. Để dùng hết toàn bộ không gian trống thì bạn phải resize phân vùng ổ ứng sau khi cài nên vẫn phải dùng Linux. Mình có clip hướng dẫn cài vào USB nếu bạn quan tâm kzbin.info/www/bejne/ena3ZHiDoZtgiK8

Hello, it depends on your need. Select -EFI if you are mainboard is using UEFI and go with other option if it is BIOS. Ext4 and Squashfs is the filesystem, either of them are okay. To learn more, see openwrt.org/docs/techref/filesystems
