The song perfect captures Lady Maria’s tragedy. She attempted to right the wrongs committed in the fishing hamlet even going so far to abandon her beloved weapon when she couldn’t stomach the horrid memories tied to it. Eventually the weight of her sins became too much for her and she slit her throat. Then we Hunters came to uncover the truth of the Hunter’s Nightmare, and without anything left to lose. Lady Maria begins tearing herself down, even resorting to the blood arts she swore to never use in order to stop us. She has no honor or morality left because she knew threw it all away when they butchered the hamlet’s people. Lady Maria is the last huntress standing between you and the sin of the Old Hunters, will you be able to strike her down and free her of this burden? Or will you fail and be another lost soul who tried to answer the secret’s beckoning call?

She didn’t kill herself. This is just a myth some idiots created for hype. Devs cut interaction with her. Originally player could even speak with her and turn away. If player attacked her she had different response after catching players hand. So no, she didn’t kill herself, I am tired to hear this fake up from every corner

I think they went SO hard for Maria because of her story. Not only was she one of the greatest Hunters next to Gehrman, she was also much loved by the patients in the Asylum you're in before you come across the Failures, then her. She was so Amazing, Gehrman had the doll made as inspired BY her. I think Lady Marias soul somehow got into the body OF the Doll (hence some special dialogue from The Doll after defeating Lady Maria). Another point for that connection is, the same VA for The Doll is the same for Lady Maria. Makes you think aye?
@rezafebriansyah86202 жыл бұрын
@@innerguardianXIII Her soul was connected because doll was a replica of her, hence their connection. And when we slew her in the hunter's nightmare, Doll felt sense of liberation. What's fascinating to me is how hard FromSoftware goes at everything, even especially the bosses and areas that are optional. The Old Hunters is entirely optional and they put some of their best bosses, music, and areas of any of their games there. Darkeater Midir is an optional Dark Souls 3 boss and his music is amazing; and that fight really goes hard too. Same for Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring and the whole Siofra region underground. Entirely optional and absolutely breathtaking. That's not to say that the mandatory areas and bosses aren't also amazing (love the Abyss Watchers theme and fight), but FromSoft just give their all with all the things that maybe many players won't experience.

I've never played a FromSoft game, mostly because they're not exactly my kind of games to play, but I've seen plenty of the visuals and gameplay and heard music from let's plays and such, and the things that always stick with me are the bosses, the music, the visuals. I don't know what it's like to struggle with a boss for hours, or how infamously nightmarish they are to beat, but their games have always struck me as intensely beautiful on an aesthetics level. (On another note, I've been lowkey tempted to try Elden Ring. Maybe one day)
@SolaScientia2 жыл бұрын
@@evewhoo Elden Ring is the most beginner friendly of the lot, I'd say. The freedom of exploration and the ability to just run/ride away from a fight is something that is very friendly for players new to how FromSoftware games work. For Elden Ring you might want to go for a magic-heavy build rather than melee since magic is very strong and easier on newer players. I never really mess with the magic or pyro in these games, so I'm doing a dex build with the spirit summons and haven't had too much difficulty, but I'm used to these sorts of games. As for difficulty, it really is more about learning patterns and figuring out how the game works. The souls games tend to reward players for being cautious and backing off to heal in a fight, but they can punish players if they don't time their heals right. Bloodborne, by contrast, more encourages aggression by rewarding players to hit enemies back to regain health when they get hit. Bloodborne is honestly pretty easy for me because of how fast and aggressive the game is. It does come down to the player though.
@SolaScientia2 жыл бұрын
@@ValbrandrLeonhardt I haven't gotten to Mohg yet, but I've been listening to the soundtrack and I love it. Darkeater Midir is another boss I haven't gotten to yet, but I also love his music. Mohg is also a character who really is properly evil. Most of the characters have their motivations and can't really be properly evil or good, but not Mohg. I'll admit I'm also excited for the fight because he's voiced by Con O'Neill who is amazing.

@@dougdynamo9398 Starscourge Radahn’s theme is one that I absolutely think is as good as Lady Maria’s. I honestly think it’s the best presentation for a fight From has ever made. There’s this intense feeling that you’re giving a fitting end to a once righteous warrior, and the OST really reflects that, especially second phase. There are a bunch of others as well, but one of my favorites is Godrick. He’s this grafted abomination, one of the most vile beings you encounter throughout the game, and his track has this sense of insanity that matches the character perfectly. It’s like he has this undeserved sense of pride in his power, even though it was stolen from others. My other favorites are Lichdragon Fortissax, Godfrey, Rykard, and definitely Godskin Apostles. (Edit) I think it's honestly in my top five OSTs they've created up there with Lady Maria. I know I am 100% in the minority on Radahn. I really like the character, and I think he's perfect in concept. But I just don't think he stuck the landing. Granted, it's mainly my fault because on my first playthrough I fought him 1v1. I'm just too attached to that style of fight, and his design is made for a completely different style of play. The 2nd time was genuinely the day before the patch where they beefed him back up, and I had really explored before so I just melted him. I'm glad that people like him. Like I said, I like him in concept, and I think his music is good. I just didn't have a good experience with him, and his OST doesn't resonate with me the same way Godrick, Fortissax, Rykard or the final boss(es).

I had no idea this was what I had heard while fighting, or any of the other themes, because I was so fully inside the game. Hearing the music separate from the games is when the emotions truly hit you and then when you go back completely recontextualizes the game and revitalizes the experience to a wholly different level of appreciation.

I'm glad to see someone else as excited about this track as me! Absolutely adore this one (the fight itself is one of my favorites too) and it's always the one I turn to when introducing the Soulsborne OST to someone. Agreed with it being one of, if not THE best piece of OST they've made!

I could tell how much loved the music, you even looked as if you a were Musical Director telling a whole band how to play. I always liked how this OST harmonize with the clocktower bells, as if telling us that that time has reached it's end, that is sign time towards something ominous, or you are running out of time.

I've been binging your SoulsBorne reactions, since I've had a renaissance when it comes to the OST's after playing Elden Ring. And Bloodborne sticking with me especially. And I can say hands down this is my favorite of your reaction videos, maybe even my favorite reaction video on youtube as a whole. While other tubers would pause the video, or even talk over the video to convey their thoughts (Which is a completely valid way of doing it) you didn't. Your body language said it all. I felt like I was experiencing this song again for the first time through you, it was so raw and pure.

Your other music reactions are well and good, but your reactions to Bloodborne music especially are so emotional, genuine and full of enthusiasm more so than with other games. They really are and it truly drives home the point that Bloodborne's music is just outstanding. No other soundtrack (and I almost exclusively listen to video game OSTs) has moved me in the way that BB's has. And this is reflected by the way in which you react to this music. It's almost magical and it's good to know you feel the same way.

Probably not the first to notice, but your reaction to each note the choir produced was perfect - it was like you knew exactly each note the composer(s) were about to hit; you were so in-tune to the choir, it was bliss to watch!

Very cool to see your reaction to this! Bloodbornes ost is truly in a class of its own. They went all out with the full chorus and symphony orchestra. I'm very excited and curious to see what your reaction to the Orphan of Kos theme is next. Its easily my favorite in the ost for the story the music tells all on its own

I LOVE your reaction to this! Lady Maria is my second favorite From Software theme ever (just under Ludwig.) You're my favorite reaction channel because you take the time to listen to the song completely before you evaluate. I appreciate that because I feel like you can't understand a piece of music fully until you experience it in its entirety. Lady Maria is my favorite boss and this was such a treat to watch.

The way this piece builds is really tear-jerking even while conveying Maria's power in the game. First those doleful strings come in at like 0:55 in your video, then the chorus hits at 1:54 and you feel that incredible weight you need for a dramatic boss encounter. One of the best in the game. If you remember the level building up to her too-- it's so perfectly coincides with the narrative. It's a church converted to a clinic for the afflicted, and every patient and item speaks about Maria, so you get a big narrative build up to think about who she is. I now keep a save file where I never beat Maria, so I can just boot up Bloodborne whenever I want and experience that fight, with the music. And then I lose on purpose so I can fight her again. First time I fought her I *literally* died because of the music. I couldn't focus on the boss fight and let her kill me. It's so moving.
@marnixwarren45062 жыл бұрын
I mean really this piece is like an apotheosis for Maria. She's a god to the patients in this clinic. And you feel it-- the sense that she's this tragic goddess mustering her power against you to martyr herself one last time for her cause.

You know, for her backstory being a tragedy and the Implication being she's a broken women. I didn't get that feeling when I fought her. In the cutscene at the beginning, maybe. But after that? The fear of someone's sheer unbridled might is the Impression she left on me. That and the numerous L's she handed me. A caged beast is still a beast.

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower...besides Ludwig, probably my most intense Gaming experience of all times. I was not kind to her, neither in words nor in deeds. And she seemed happy to be returning the favour. My neighbors must have thought we had a case of domestic violence going on :D the catharsis of finally defeating her...others have said it before, this was like a mad final dance into blissful death. Beautiful agony! Thanks for sharing this Love!

I love how this feels like a waltz, because her fight is basically a dance to the death between two skilled hunters. My favorite fight in the game, especially using the saif as my weapon. The dashing forward, back, around between the two of you is just excellent

I find it interesting how to this day this track, together with Gael's theme from Dark Souls 3, are the only 2 tracks where the music has 3 phases as well, not just the bosses. For Maria's theme I didn't actually notice until I got my hands on the game files themselves, I always thought it just has a short phase 1 loop and a long phase 2 loop, but it's split into 3 parts actually.

To me, the start of the theme feels very impersonal. She’s going to kill you, but it’s nothing personal. It’s routine to her, like a dance at a ball. A very deadly one for the Good Hunter, but an average Tuesday for Lady Maria. But then the phase changes. The Good Hunter has turned the tides. The choir kicks in and her focus is entirely on you. You are now an acknowledged threat to Lady Maria and can hear her thoughts, her curse as she decides to wield the Vileblood coursing through her veins for the first time in an age. Then phase 3 hits and you can hear the desperation. She knows she has to go all out to keep the Fishing Hamlet and Orphan of Kos a secret, and this angers her. You’ve forced Lady Maria to cast aside the last remnants of her already shattered pride to fully dedicate herself to killing you. And that is the beauty of video game music that I don’t think modern music can begin to match. It’s telling a story and letting you understand a character without even hearing them so much as talk.

This is definitely my favorite track from Bloodborne, and Lady Maria is my favorite boss to fight, alongside Gehrman and Ludwig, both of which have two of my other favorite tracks behind Maria’s. I enjoy her theme so much that it gets me killed when I’m fighting her sometimes. I just get so distracted by how amazing her theme is that I start messing up and not paying enough attention. Am I the only one that happens to? It’s happened with Ludwig for me too, but not Gehrman, even though his theme is right up next to Ludwig’s for me.

Wonderfully said. This piece and Laurence, The First Vicar go back and forth in my head as some of the best FromSoft have to offer musically. I will say, though, that this one tells more of a story. It starts off slightly disturbing, melancholy, lonely - as Maria endeavors to put you down like the rest of the Hunters before you that tried to unearth the secret she guards. She herself has a secret as well: the lineage of a Vampire-like royalty that she rejects with her whole being. But half-way through the fight, as her skill fails her, she impales herself, blood exploding from her body in fiery streams. She throws away a part of who she is and accepts her fate as Vileblood as long as she can atone for her sins and spare you the Nightmare.
@PetiteNanou2 жыл бұрын
I don't know the game nor the boss. But while listening, I got the idea that she was a very old character (vampire? immortal?) that has been waiting centuries for this fight. She also sounds really lonely and terribly sad, especially towards the beginning. We can hear a unique lamenting voice of a female around 3:31, standing out from the crowd of other 'ghosts' singing behind her. Something happened to her in her past and she must have lost everything , I felt like that's why she cannot die completely.
