Happy November! Here we are for Part 3 with FULL REACTIONS! 🔥 After filming this vid, I went and watched Davi Vasc's reaction to Living Failures and I feel so stupid for not recognizing that string part as being the same as Gustav Holst's 'Mars' 😂(hence why I put it in the edit instead). I think I need to revisit a LOT of classical music now haha. Part 4 will have Lady Maria, Hail The Nightmare, and Orphan of Kos so stay tuned! 🎶

Unbelievable. I was about to recommend those 3 OSTs, especially since I think Hail The Nightmare and Orphan of Kos are very underrated. But you arleady planned those exact OSTs. Now I'm very excited. Bloodborne is an artistic masterpiece, and its music is as good as its lore is deep. Hail The Nightmare is very lyric focused, and I just highly appreciate its artistical place in the world and story of Bloodborne, especially when knowing the lyrics and its deeper symbolical meanings.

Laurence is the definition of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions," trying to heal people through the Healing Church, but ultimately starting the beast scourge in the whole of Yarhnam, gets killed and trapped in the hunter's nightmare to have his body eternally burning. In an essence, there is no Bloodborne without Laurence; First phase he's a flaming cleric beast, in the second phase when the solemn cello kick in, his legs explode and he's crawling on the ground, screaming in pain trying to kill you fighting for his life. He's one of the most tragic bosses besides Gerhman

Laurence is more tragic, he wanted to do something good but it went wrong, he tried to stop it but ended up turned into a monster and was beheaded and even if he had his missing skull he would have his memories back. In the nightmare he is doomed to suffer until we came in to stop his torment.
@TwighlightLugia20 сағат бұрын
It goes deeper than that. Laurence was with Byrgenwerth, who plumbed the old labyrinth underneath Yharnam first. Which means that before the Healing Church even began, the college knew about "ailing" Loran, an ancient land swallowed by their own version of the Beast Plague. Which means that, despite knowing what happened to Loran, Laurence, in his hubris, believed he could do it better. There's also a dubiously canon moment in the comics that imply that Laurence and his church members poisoned the water supply in Old Yharnam with the "ashen blood" illness so that they could turn around and cure it. Old Yharnam, which was later torched nearly to the ground to keep the Plague at bay. That is why he sits in the purgatorial Hunter's Nightmare, eternally burning for his sins as he screams for forgiveness, and crawls desperately on the floor, dragging his flaming entrails behind him. Hell, when you get to him, he's in a pose in mock of the _Pieta_ statue. Except for Laurence, there is no one there to comfort him, and the very gods that Laurence idolized haven't been listening for a long, long time.

«Oh, Laurence... What's taking you so long..., I've grown too old for this, of little use now, I'm afraid» - Gehrman, sleeptalking. Having been trapped in the Hunter’s dream for so long, Gehrman has no idea what befell the church, the hunters or Laurence. All he knows is the beasts roam the city and the Moon Presence calls upon hunters to cleanse these foul streets. This also tells us they were at some point colleagues or even friends. As for you getting cultush vibes, yes. The healing church sprouted from the ambitions of extremist scholars of Byrgenwyrth college. They took the holy blood and did with it as they pleased, despite the warnings of old master Willem. As the consequences of their actions dawned on the upper echelons of the Healing Church including Laurence himself, the question as writ in the lyrics of his theme arose: Expectare, iste blasphemia? Loosely translated, «wait, could this be blasphemy?». The lyrics speak of the beginning of the feast, the sanctity of the blood (sanguine sanctum) and the realization that there is more than mere healing powers in this old holy blood. It speaks of the emergeance of beasts. It’s a lament of pride, realization and regret.

@@TeraCMusic Awesome! I'm very excited to hear that! Alright so. The first series that comes to mind is Legend of Zelda for their history of phenomenal orchestral sounds. But if I remember correctly you know quite a few of them already so let's skip that. Same thing with some of the other big names. Pokemon, (some of the older themes are beautiful, but black and white is a sleeper pick too), fire Emblem (again lovely main theme, Awakening, Fates & 3 Houses are my favourites in recent memory.), Elder Scrolls (but I think I saw you perform some of those) and so on and so forth. I'd like to give you a few you may be haven't dipped your toes into. Number one is hollow Knight. Great platformer metroidvania- Souls-like game. The entire ost is an absolute masterpiece of emotionally driven storytelling and world building. (Christopher larkins clever use of Leitmotifs is a treat!). Next is The Witcher 3 which features a whole range of very percussion intensive sounds. Not quite as many strings in this one but it's a very unique and memorable atmosphere. In recent months one of the best Soundtracks I've had the honor of attending life performances of was Yu Chen Pengs work on genshin impact. That is a rabbit hole on its own, let me tell you. With multiple hundreds of well-crafted orchestral pieces there is a seemingly never-ending amount of beautiful things to listen to and to put into playlists. (Of special note here are the Boss themes which feature multiple layers of complex storytelling the likes of which have only ever seen in really well written operas) And lastly for a very unique and fun experience I can recommend listening to some of League of Legends' character themes. There are many interesting ones and it's great fun to listen to and speculate about what a character and their motifs could look like!

I played maybe 20 hours and then never picked it back up, but they have consistently added more and more to the story and game so it'd be fun to listen to those tracks! LoL is also another good one! I don't really know any of the songs aside from the K-pop collaborations (I'm a huge K-pop fan lol) so that'd be fun to do as well! Fire Emblem I pretty much know all of them since Awakening (Chrom is bae lol) but when a new FE game comes out, I'd love to react to that too! I did listen to one Hollow Knight track for an upcoming Violinist Attempts video, but yes I really should listen to more!

Ill try give a brief synapses of the backstories for these. A group of scholars found ancient blood in tombs below the city of Yarnham. They also found evidence of great beings that had ascended to a higher plane of existence. Great Ones is the name the game uses. Very mysterious Lovecraftian style beings with unknowable goals and motivations. A few characters wanted humanity to also ascend to that next stage. Laurence thought they could use this holy blood to do it. So he split off from the rest of the school and founded the Healing church. They had discovered the blood could cure any illness and had a sort of intoxicating, addicting quality to it. The church grew in power rapidly with many people in Yarnham partaking in the blood. Eventually everyone started turning in to vicious beasts. The holy blood was actually a curse. We find Laurence trapped in a nightmare as a massive burning beast. The lyrics as someone else posted sort of tell his story with the blood. Laurence is a very tragic character because he wanted the best for humanity and thought the blood was the answer. But because of his own arrogance he ended up dooming everyone. Theres a sort of irony in his OST. While the epic heroic segment is playing Laurence is crawling around on the floor screaming in an almost pathetic way. (Still very dangerous gameplay wise but not storywise.) Other characters believed they could ascend humanity through physical experimentation. Turning themselves in to great ones literally. Or at least creating beings that could communicate with the great ones directly. Its kinda ambiguous afaik. Maybe a bit of both. The Living Failures are people who were transformed into these alien looking blue things. They are considered failures because they did not properly ascend. It seems they did gain some sort of power as they summon a meteor shower during the bossfight but they definitely didnt turn out as intended. We find them at the end of a research hall filled with other failed experiments. People with big bulbous fleshy heads that have gone insane. Hopefully that gives some sort of explanation. Bloodbornes story is very vague and confusing in general with lots of gaps. Cheers for the video though was a fun watch.

So about the Living Failures, the OST is taken inspiration from the Song Mars by Gustav Holst wich is about God of War Aries/Mars. This composition inspired John Willians to create Star Wars themes. In Elden Ring there's another Boss Theme called Astel Naturalborn Of The Void wich also inspiration from Mars by Gustav Holst.

It healed injuries, cured diseases, and was canonically more intoxicating than alcohol. Unfortunately, anyone who'd taken the blood eventually turned into beasts (werewolfs), and Lawrence had Old Yarnham purged. Eventually, Lawrence and the older members of the church also succumbed to the blood and turned into even more monstrous beasts than the townspeople. Eventually, he was killed, and his soul went to a nightmare realm where you put him down for good.

But of lightweight context for you: Laurence was a founding member of a religious order that uses cursed blood transfusions to heal the sick, against the sage advice of his academic mentors. In a lot of ways the story of Bloodborne is the story of Laurence. As you already learned with Gascoigne, the curse turns people into beasts; well, the clerics of this church, due to their exposure to the cursed blood, became even bigger, gnarlier beasts. Cleric beasts. It isn't an accident his theme has a callback to the cleric beast theme because Laurence was the first. Unlike Ludwig who gets a moment of lucidity before you end his suffering forever, Laurence never does. All that's left of him is burning, feral rage and even after you cut off his legs he drags himself after you until you put him down for good. As for the Living Failures, well, you can imagine that a fair amount of trial and error was required to work out how much blood to administer to heal the sick...
