Hey everyone it's Jess and I'm an oepra singer. Today's video is a little different because I'm going to be reacting to an audio recording. Usually I only like to do live performances but today is an exception because it is Faouzia and John Legend's new song "Minefields."

Yes!!! Faouzia did it again, and with John Legend... I'm so dead. I was listening to this on repeat at like 5-something this morning. I cannot put it down. My boyfriend must think I'm nuts! I don't care... It's just that good. Oh my gosh. What was that high note of Faouzia's near the end? When she hits those, I'm just floored--such a range. Love it. And Joh ... wow. Their harmonies are exquisite...

@@jessicasopranonotes I hope he will! He's got respect for Faouzia, but I don't think he likes her voice that much. Maybe her style? I don't know. But I am in love with her. :) She is sooooo good. The first time I heard her sing (on a "This Mountain" reaction video), I didn't know if I'd like her. The fast vibrato isn't something I like. But with her, it grew on me, and only with her, so far, anyway. :D Got your comment from the other day. You are so welcome. I'm fascinated by people's histories, what music they like, whether they love the music they sing, or sing it because it's what people like, but they don't really like it. I'm intrigued that you've had such a wide range of genres you enjoy. I think it's super cool. The question is, can you sing a more "modern" style? Um ... what's it called ...? Can you sing pop? Without the classical influence/training? In my limited experience, people seem to be able to sing one or the other, not bothh. It takes someone who is very good at switching between the two or more styles. I love watching your reactions. :)

@@jessicasopranonotes P.S. I was having fun playing alone on the keyboard. I love the chord progression. So s imple, but so beautiful! A, B, C#-minor, C#-minor, B, E. I think. I'm not great on the piano, but I love it, and I love playing along with different artists, to see how their songs are written. I can't duplicate them with something original, but it's still loads of fun. I'm impressed with her C#3 and G#5!!! In can hit both... Not sure what that says about my voice part. I used to sing second soprano in high school choir, but i can't go beyond the G#5, and can only hit that on good days. It's incredible how subtly but definitely women's voices change. When I was about fifteen, that F3 was too low! That baffles me. Anyway, rambling. Thank you so much for replying to me!

@@AmyAndThePup To answer your question, yes I can sing pop and musical theater as well. However, pop is the hardest for me because belting feels super vulnerable to me.It's just something we don't do in opera. I'm pretty good at it but I've never done it for a performance or anything. My music journey started in the church with gospel so I have a bit of that influence. Isn't it so interesting how the voice can change with time? But honestly, never doubt the power of practice. Repetition is so good for the voice and brain which are very connected. There were notes and styles I wasn't able to do before (such as singing a lot of fast notes) but I've been able to get pretty good at them with time. Maybe you aren't able to hit the G#5 now, but I'm sure with the right amount of determination and practice, you can get it 😉 If that's something you even want. So nice talking to you. I am on here frequently so never hesitate to reach out.

@@jessicasopranonotes Is there a way to private message you on here? This comment got a little long... :) Here it is anyway, but I'll just throw it out there that I'm open to private email or whatever. You know, I don't sing opera, but belting feels vulnerable to me, too. That's a very accurate way to describe it, one I hadn't been able to put into words. I wonder why it feels that way? Part of it is literally not knowing how--it doesn't come naturally at all, and part is not wanting to hurt my voice by doing it incorrectly. Maybe asking all this stuff can help someone else not feel alone. I need voice lessons. I'm not shy when talking to people, ut music brings out this vulnerable part of me, and I clam up. I wish so many things. One is that I could get training, without being so scared of doing the wrong things, and hurting my voice. I had pinpoint nodules about nine years ago. I'd been very sick, lost my voice for several weeks, and never fully recovered my singing voice after that illness. I went to my ENT, who referred me to a speech pathologist. He was a gem ... truly a gem. I did therapy with him for six weeks, and just from repeating those exercises, one of the nodules went away. I kept doing the exercises even after I wasn't in therapy anymore. I'm pretty sure they're gone. I don't feel some of what I felt then, and my high notes are better, transitioning isn't ... I'm not even sure how to describe it ... broken. lol I had allergy shots several years later. They completely changed my voice! I went from singing alto parts on my church's worship team to singing something akin to what I wanted to sing but thought I'd lost--those higher notes. Not super high--a friend still sang higher than me and it was more comfortable for her, but it felt liberating to get that part of my voice back. I wonder when a mezzo soprano becomes an alto? What's the highest note a mezzo can sing? Am I in the alto camp? I know it's never that cut and dry. I know there's a lot more that goes into it, but it does make me wonder... I would love to hear you sing gospel! So awesome. Are you a Christian?

Please react to Dimash sing S.O.S. in I Am Singer in China singing competition. Song in French. He is from Kazakhstan, age 22 at that time in 2017. His parents are opera singers. He sing Sinful passion/love is like a dream / Ogni pietra- in Russian language. He has English songs Your love / Screaming. Please react to Sohyang from South Korea. She sing Arirang Alone in singing competition at Immortal Songs 2. Song is a unofficial national anthem song btw North Korea and South Korea longing for unification. In Korean language. She did a lot of English songs too like Bridge over troubled water / lean on me/ I have nothing and so on. Both singers have a good control of their vocals.
