I'd like to see the incinerator. I've been wondering what happens to all the tumors and cysts and body parts that need to be disposed of. Thanks for your great videos!

Hey there. I'm currently a 14 year old student who is incredibly interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Your videos have taught me quite a lot, and I seriously thank you for sharing them. Each and every one of them has educated me on some things I should expect in the soon future. You are amazing!

I'm a uni student waiting for my delayed medical intake in Sept this year. Really appreciate your videos, they are so informative! Never thought I could learn so much from a video on the Trash Cans in an operating room. Do make more videos!

You know I've been a tech for five years and never heard of "the cactus" before. Very interesting

+Matt McFatter yeah, they just recently brought it into our OR about 6months ago before we had our annual JACHO visit. You will probably see it soon, I think it's becoming standard.

Hi! I am a medical assisting student but I love watching your videos! To answer what happens to the contents of a sharps container.... my instructor told us that, yes, sharps are incinerated!

Jayde Wilson just remember repetition, and also I'm guessing you'll be done classroom wise (STILL STUDY), and I'd suggest getting *Lange Q&A Surgical Technology Examination* this is expensive, but it has everything (and I mean everything) to study. And also practice passing Instruments, especially suture needles, hypos, and blades, also KNOW YOUR ANATOMY. It will help knowing and setting up a procedure u haven't done before.

Very Interesting! In Italy it's very similar to the USA only the bio-hazard containers are yellow. In Sweden (my other country) were I work we only use a sharps container and a used medications/drugs container, like "the cactus" only difference is it's just a slightly larger (unlocked) yellow box. So in Sweden everything that's not a sharp or medication goes in the regular household thrash, blood or no blood (with very few exceptions)...

Today my nurse thought that our red bag was to big for our kick bucket so she had tied the bottom so it looked like it fit the bucket, well when I was cleaning up I lift the bag up to tie it and put it on my cart, everything fell out. Let's just say I had to change scrubs twice today. Luckily I was wearing those big shoe covers that pull over the knees and protect the entire leg.

Given to circulator. Never the surgical techs problem , you receive it from the surgeon then wrap it to shield Patient from witnessing it then pass to circulator when directed to do so.

You should do a video on MH and what a scrubs role is during a MH event.

+Dakota Anderson funny you say that. I was thinking back to the last time we did a refresher of an MH event. We had big name tags for everyone doing the "play" it was fun and informational. When we do the next one I will definitely be recording it.

Hey great video... I'm 4 weeks into the surg tech program... I can't wait to get into the field... Question how long do you have to clean up and set up for the next procedure??
@mattmcfatter7629
@mattmcfatter7629 7 жыл бұрын
Nicole Berry well ist diff everywhere,for me I had to wait 3mins for someone to clean my room, I've also had them bring the patient while still OPENING MY ROOM, and it was a craniotomy for tumor. And also for us sometimes we have multiple teams to flip flop the surgeons so the that the cases will go faster.

Matt McFatter so who clean the room and putting the trash out?? Ist the surgical technogist or the techncian??

Sleeves and Jeans, there have been many times we have had to clean our room. Say if 3 rooms come out at the same time and it's a busy schedule, you just have to keep moving. It's not a big deal.

Im posting this publicly as it may help others in similar situations.. So im about 3 weeks out of graduating for CST... And now that im at the home stretch i'm really starting to wonder why I'm getting into this. Now 1st, Im highly interested in the field, BUT the severe abuse (mainly by staff) and doc's it just blows your confidence. Instead of super knowledgeable people wanting to "share" their knowledge (like yourself), They will often use you as a pawn and just blame you and/or just wait for you to screw up and fail... Then they can all talk about how much of an idiot you are, ect.... Now me, I dont care if you yell at me, shit thats how i learn... But please tell me why and what i can do to correct what i did wrong... This they dont do, you just feel more at guard(less willing to do things), and more scared to do anything... Why are people so frickin mean in this field? I mean where you not students at one time? I mean i'm a nice guy, If anyone was with me that was in trouble (or clueless) I would make an effort to help them.... Why doesnt this ever happen? Why would i work 10+ hrs a day for free jut to get a $15/hr job? thats whats hard for me to get my head around right now.... Plus NO ONE here hires CST's with no experience, so if you get a job making $10/hr(it happens) your lucky..... Im in the dumps right now and no im not giving up.... But I "may" never go in , and might go back and do more school for something else... question is what? Sorry for the rant, and i know this isnt super unusual... But any suggestions, comments would be appreciated.... And YOU, thank you for what you do for us and at a big expense of YOUR time right now... Thank You!

TheRusschannel, I hope things are better for you now. I can tell you that most facilities aren't like that. We always had ST students. We were also always looking for talented students to hire. Our job was to train y'all, help you to stand on your own. We had great surgeons, too. They wanted you to ask questions.
