So nice to see the IJA and IJN getting along for once. And to think, all it took was the loss of some 40,000 men in the south Pacific and a total strategic reversal to make it happen.

When the Allies neutralized Japanese air & sea power on Rabaul, it totally shattered the illusion that Japan still had any initiative left in the Pacific War. Knocking out all of Rabaul’s teeth, ie its aircraft, & bypassing it was definitely the correct call.
@recoil53 Жыл бұрын
Just the idea that Truk and Rabaul were used as training grounds for new air crews must have been humiliating. But the Japanese high command kept thinking they could force a decisive battle and turn it all around right up to the end.

The British doing a full re-evaluation of the performance of the military in India is hugely important to militaries. Being able to not only actively replace less skilled or failing commanders, but also bringing in experienced ones to train and create doctrine is one of the reasons why the Allies were able to go from such an ineffective military, to winning the war. Recognizing and fixing the lack of supplies and inefficiencies within the military instead of just "pretending" that everything is well. It's also why Russia has been failing in Ukraine, while they have replaced commanders, on top of morale issues there is a huge lack of adaptability within the Russian military, and even just outright experience in everything but a few key figures. Especially when it comes to the scale of the war, which is the largest conflict Russia has been in since it was essentially the Soviet Union in ww2.
@recoil53 Жыл бұрын
Russia had already sent in their training staff by the middle of last year. They've lost at least eight generals - and Russia takes an extremely top down approach to warfare. A lot of colonels too, so there isn't a lot of experienced commanders to move around. The average conscript does want to be there, so there is no morale boosting "moral imperative". There are skilled Russian soldiers, the paratroopers. They've been getting chewed up.

It's really no surprise, that the Indian Army was in such shambles... it was never designed to fight such a superior enemy, but to enforce Colonial rule upon it own peoples. Also, properly training them would also enable them, to fight their Colonial Overlords.

MacArthur had his first face-to-face meeting with Halsey on April 15, 1943, after Halsey became the supreme theater commander for broad strategic direction, and the two hit it off right away. The relationship grew quickly and MacArthur would late say of Halsey, "No name rates higher in the annals of our country's naval history." On the evening of October 26, 1944, the day after the Battle off Samar, MacArthur was sitting down to dinner when he heard staff officers at the other end of the table criticizing Halsey's action in abandoning the Seventh Fleet while he went after the Japanese northern decoy force. MacArthur slammed his bunched fist on the table. "That's enough!" he roared. "Leave the Bull alone! He's still a fighting admiral in my book."

General MacArthur’s approach to CARTWHEEL differed from the ‘island-hopping’ campaign experienced in the Central Pacific, where vast distances necessitated repeated costly offensives. SWPA afforded the opportunity for ‘leapfrogging’ and isolation of powerful Japanese strongholds. MacArthur emphatically demonstrated this through his leap into Hollandia and the 1944 Western New Guinea campaign. For those objectives that could not be avoided, extensive shaping was necessary.

Six years to defeat Japan that is how strong they are were fighting alone without Germany or Italy Help rest in peace to all the soldiers that died in this war in the both sides.
@bruh-ni1fy Жыл бұрын
Well, to be fair to Germany and Italy, Japan for most of world war 2 was considered secondary for the allies. The bulk of allied efforts understandably focused on the European theater. Also they were fighting "alone" but not really alone without Germany and Italy. For instance the Royal navy and air force they were facing would have been an entirely different beast if it weren't tied up fighting the Germans and Italians halfway across the world at the same time.
