Loving the series guys. Fantastic to see an up close review of every battle in the Pacific, essentially. It feels like a mini WW2 channel/video, but even better because it focuses on battle maps, and I love it.
@paskberger1152 Жыл бұрын
Love that serie. What i found ironic is after two year watching for free the channel back in 2020 (plenty of time at home during the pandemic made me appreciate Rome History), when the prologue of Pacific War started in the fall of 2021, I decided it was worth the 6$CAN/month youtube considering all the free content i had already watched. Also what i find difficult to understand why this serie is not as popular considering the current Pacific game going with US and China. Note how China is 'influencing' all thoses islands to gain control. Studying the WWII Pacific War can give some idea how the next one could look like.

This series is outstanding!! If you are not already doing so, I highly recommend pausing and taking a second to read all the information boxes that pop up throughout the video. In this one for instance, I was amazed at the amount of ordinance that was used in the air raid on the Japanese positions around Bairoko after the Marines withdrew, and I can't believe that the B-25's and the fighter escort came back for strafing runs afterward as well!! I've said it before and I'll say it a hundred times, this series is the best and most comprehensive reflection of the Pacific theater I've ever seen on film. Grand strategies to small unit actions, macro to micro, you are providing such an immersive view of the entire campaign!! Sincerely, THANK YOU for all of your work, but this series is far and away my favorite to date!!

I wish they stayed up longer as I always find myself trying to speed read and they are always interesting

I never read the boxes unfortunately. They only appear for a few seconds and I will not pause their videos!!! They're too good to pause!!!
@alainaaugust1932 Жыл бұрын
I watch the video on the TV, tablet nearby. When a box pops up I pause the TV noting the time at the bottom. I find that same time on the tablet and read the box. Started this because often the letters used for the boxes seem to run together. I find the white on a blue or gray background hard to read. Certainly could not read it quickly. On tablet it’s easy to expand the box and make the letters larger. Watching in honor of my uncle who died in WWII. Thank you, K & G, I’m sure all those who fought the Pacific War deeply appreciate your attention to their lives and deaths.

@@desktoppower It's unfortunate but it's the problem of their Pacific War series requiring the most time and work to do yet it consistently brings in fewer views than any of their other videos (often only 1/3 the views compared to many of their videos). I love the Pacific War series. Following it played a big part in my long overdue membership to the channel. It's one thing to learn about the battles and wars of centuries past. But this is a piece of the most catastrophic conflict in history, one that shaped our world that we still feel - that some people still remember vividly and through personal experience. It wasn't even 100 years ago. Yet so many people have forgotten. And it's videos like this that serve to remind us and educate people.

Probably too late to ask, but I would love to see an analysis video at this point right now to see if the Empire of Japan had any hope of actually winning the war. K&G could lay out the current state of the arms race between Japan and USA to see where everything stands and an overview of each theater, etc.

I 2nd this
@alainaaugust1932 Жыл бұрын
I’d say they did not have a chance of winning-once we got our rears in gear, ramping up the home front. Still hard to believe we sent them out there with pop-gun torpedoes that pooped out before they got to the enemy ship. Don’t forget the origin of snafu-Situation Normal All ****ed Up. The GIs made that up because it was true! At first. Once we turned that nonsense around, the Imperial Army didn’t have a chance. As to can it happen again with Japan, we made them unconditionally surrender. Unconditionally. Their generals wanted to continue. The emperor who had dearly craved an empire said no, surrender. All the nations they had conquered from Burma to the Pacific Islands that the vids are now covering are enormously stronger now, some with our bases. If Japan ever fights anyone again, it’s likely to be China who hates them for what Japanese troops did to Chinese women and villagers during their war. I’ve been to China-the US has no monopoly on bitter, intractable racism.

Brilliant as always. And amazed that K&G has draw a back and forth on isles and will focus on IJN's withdrawal from Kiska, I thought you just described it a bit and now will ignore. However, although nothing to do with the movie, I felt that the word "ruthless" to describe the Japanese constantly is out of place funniness. @@GoCharzard Or you could not tell people how to manage their own finances like an asshole would :). Kings and Generals can spin it as not wanting to have sponsors cutting in, but the fact is their channel has been used as a resource by many who couldn't afford to pay and that's where their success came from. They are now trying to shift the burden, of overextending their finances through extremely fast growth, onto the viewers the same way the very institutions that allowed their channel to see success, by driving people away, did. Gatekeeping knowledge is not how you run an education channel, especially cutting off a majority of viewers' access to a series midway through, in a clear cash grab.

This is a fantastic series and I follow it weekly. My only critique is that the note bubbles that pop up several times in the videos are very hard to read. They're all capitalized and the words are so close. Other Note Bubbles on your channel's videos are much easier to read, but this particular style on the Pacific Campaign series gives my eyes a lot of difficulty to make out. Just something to consider, because I can't be the only one having trouble.

You’re not. Have to watch TV, pause it, pick up my tablet, expand the screen, then read the box on my tablet. Even then, it’s hard to read. I see it’s not just me and my eyes. Even in a clearer font white on a light blue background does not give enough contrast.

You can not comprehend the scale of these operations and logistic nightmare the terrain would cause,. Even now some of these locations have no tracks, so imagine in 1943 without satellite images, GPS, heat, modern equipment and at the same time someone trying to shoot you. Please do not take my word for it and watch the video and have google maps handy, only problem is your video ends up twice as long due to the odd pause now and then.

Their intelligence was pretty good until we got better at duping them and hiding our real plans thanks to the Navaho code talkers. Remember, we weren’t ready for this war-Roosevelt had a heck of a time getting Congress to wake up. As our early defeats show, it took us to this point after Guadalcanal to get all our ducks in a row and seize the initiative island by island.

I’m sorry to hear K&G is struggling, but making a series a “members only” after 87 episodes?? This smacks a bit of strong-arming subs that have already viewed, liked, commented and sat through sponsor pitches for 87 episodes. I’ve never started a patreon subscription based on “here’s half a series, want to watch more - pay up”, and I’m not doing it now. Frankly, I find it slightly dishonest. I wish K&G all the best in the future.
@KingsandGenerals Жыл бұрын
We have explained our situation. The goal is not to strong arm people into anything. You will still see most episodes in long format. So, we are basically changing the format from weekly short-ish videos to monthly/bimonthly long videos. If you prefer the short format, you can donate to help us out, if you don't have money/don't care what the delivery format is/think that we don't deserve money, you will watch the long episodes.

Nothing really happens when I press the link in your pinned comment about the future of Pacific War series, could be an error on my end, all I get is a blank page (am on Ipad Pro). However what I get from other comments is that K&G is struggling, and now have made weekly uploads members only. I still question the fairness of meddling with a series that are nearly 90 episodes long. Your format is clearly a weekly upload about a week in the war. Long format means; try to keep up because last we updated you non-paying members was 4-8 (eight!) weeks ago. Does any of your K&G historians read history books like that? A few pages 4-8 weeks apart? If so, I must commend them if they can keep track of events. I cannot do it, sadly. Perhaps if the topic was a single battle, but I can’t jump to and from the Pacific War with months between. I do sincerly wish K&G the best in the future.
What has happened to this series? I haven’t seen a new episode since #87/Munda Point. Has it stopped? Are more episodes available somewhere else?
