IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover is a World War II combat flight simulator developed by the Russian software house 1C:Maddox Games. It inherits the name IL-2 Sturmovik from the Il-2 Sturmovik classical series (2001-2009) and is considered as being a part of the series, but it runs its own game engine instead of sharing it with the classic series.

I am a bit dismayed by the number of adults on this (the US) side of the pond I have run into that didn't even know that Dunkirk happened. Arguably the greatest rescue (or escape, depending on your POV) in human history. Thanks for the video.

I heard a bit about Dunkirk in my world history class, but we didn’t really learn a lot about it as there were various aspects of WWII we also learned about. I went home and looked up what Dunkirk was about and was very amazed at the whole situation. It’s really a miracle how many men were alive by the time it was over. And after seeing the film, I felt very patriotic for the British.

I remember it from history classes, but when I saw the movie trailers, I made a point of going to see the movie. There was a lot I didn't know, but I'm glad I learned.

When the RAF was expanding in the late 1930s, the British could not make enough gun sights for their fighters, so they ordered them from Vienna. These were supplied right up to the start of the war. So many of the British fighters right up to and including the Battle of Britain were using gun sights made in the Third Reich.

Is this single player? Can anyone give advice on what the single player missions/campaigns are like? Is the AI good etc? I love the look of this game but would probably be mostly playing single player, at least initially

I have talked to people here [USA] and I am amazed at the pure not willing to listen or learn. My father was wounded in WW2 Army and Coast Guard. I had 5 uncles in that war, and all but one was purple heart recipients. People here do not want to learn and really believe that they are on the top of the food chain ! Our education system is in shambles, and our children don't get a fair shake. Dunkirk was taught and drilled when I was in school, as was D-Day, North Africa and the Pacific. The generation I come in contact have not a clue. If you do not remember [and study] your history..you are bound to repeat the same mistakes. Humans are stupid !

Yea they are active player's . And it cost money but you get a free 2 week trial and then you can buy the game with 5 $ but only delivred in US or you could pay 15 $ every month for VIP Server (Events , and 500 people servers )

I built a 1/32 scale model of that KL-B marked Spitfire you're flying in-game as it was flown by New Zealander Alan Deere at Dunkirk. There's something about the early war Spits with their half black and half white undersides that makes them unique and quite sharp looking. Excellent video. I hope to get a high end PC and flight stick soon so I can start playing all the IL2 games and DCS and finally ditch War Thunder. I haven't played any good combat flight sims since the day's of Microsoft's combat flight simulator 2 & 3

The RAF withheld a lot of support, keeping the for the expected invasion. This caused a lot of bitterness at the time.

As the war progressed, the Spitfire also received many upgrades and revisions. The Spitfire variant shown in this video is the "Mk I" which was armed with 8 Browning machine guns (.303 calibre with each gun firing around 1100 rounds per minute). However, later variants of the Spitfire carried heavier armament. For example, the Spitfire Mk IIb had 4 of the 8 browning machine guns replaced with 2 Hispano cannons (20mm calibre with mixed high explosive and armour piercing rounds in the ammo belt).
