Twenty years ago this week the U.S. carried out its first airstrikes and begin its ground invasion of Iraq with Operation Iraqi Freedom lasting nearly a decade. NBC’s Gadi Schwartz looks into how those who fought in the war are still dealing with the physical and emotional burdens of the war.

Many don’t know this, but my school’s headmaster was a coast guard commander. He had many military contacts and was able to fly the flag that was used in this operation to out school to display in the office.

US war on Iraq was a crusade for oil as Iraq single handily holds approximately 25 percent (the numbers vary) of the world's oil resources. Millions of Iraqi’s has payed for it with their lives.
