The Indian cost for the buildup was ₹216 billion (US$3.0 billion) total of 155,000 Indians displaced. 4000 Indian soldiers died. One of the reasons for the failure of Operation Parakram is described to be the slow mobilization of 500,000 troops. It took nearly three weeks for India to completely move 500,000 troops, 3 armored divisions, and other supporting units to the border. The delay allowed Pakistan to move its own 300,000 troops along with the supporting units to the border. Lacking strategic surprise, Indian military decided to withdraw its troops.[35][36] Former Indian naval chief, Sushil Kumar, claimed that operation Parakram lacked clear objectives. He described the operation as a "punishing mistake" for India. He made these remarks on 5 November 2011. Moreover, he said that operation Parakram, may in fact have encouraged both Pakistan and China to increase cross border violations. Had India tried a similar operation against China, it would have been a fatal blunder for India

I would like to familiarize you with some of the facts that apparently you don't know. Prior to the operation, Indian army planted landmines in the bordering region of Rajasthan and suffered 1,776 casualties while laying and removing the mines. The number of civilian casualties was 1,259 (National Herald India). Indian government also spent around 8,000 crore Indian rupees on relocation of troops. Indian army returned without war with Pakistan. Now, muse over the cost Indian army and government suffered due this so-called operation and then ask yourself who is responsible for the death of those soldiers and civilians, the Rogue Indian government of that time or Pakistan. You must also know that Pakistan didn't want war at that time and could not even afford to sponsor a terrorist attack in India because of the heavy influx of Taliban, who were evading the US attacks in Afghanistan, into Pakistan. Taliban's influx into the scarcely managed valleys of erstwhile FATA was of great concern to Pakistan than India. This influx was made possible by the porous and not properly fenced border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Such a crap lecture. Missing many important historical facts because of fanatical love with then PM Vajpaye and Indian generals. Operation Parakram was a failed operation by India. Over 1800 Indian soldiers were killed without even fighting. And India achieved no objectives.
