NEW DELHI: Two decades ago, a dastardly terrorist attack on India’s parliament by Pakistan-based terrorists led to a massive mobilization of troops on India’s western front. The threat of a war between two-nuclear armed countries alarmed world powers. Eventually, no war took place but the exercise-Operation Parakram-offered several lessons that India took note of and subsequently rejigged its military doctrine. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale tells us how it began and what followed.

10:45 the lady mentioned was Kamlesh Kumari Yadav from CRPF. She received Ashok Chakra. Later when afzal guru's family filed for Clemency, they got support from the Khan Market gang - effectively stalling his death sentence; the family of Kamlesh Kumari (along with the other slain police officers) returned their gallantry awards. It was only after he was eventually hanged that the families agreed to take back the awards in 2013.

Congress fed afzal for a decade and only when BJP put presure and elections were due, he was hanged. All out efforts were made to save him by congressies and tukre tukre gang. Supreme court was opened in midnight as a last ditch effort but thanks to judiciary, their design failled.

Good commentary. Nothing has changed really. Pakistan continues to cause havoc. Now China. A weak political hierarchy continues to promote fearful India'. A pity. The balance between war and no war is hard as is the poor quality of Indian equipment. No real progress.

Indian army is working as police and no police can win against Army. Full Stop. 1962,1965 we lost and 1971 we won in flying colors but after that we used army as police.

1971 you won because it was a civil war in East pak and political military instability in west pak with no shared land border or sea connection as manekshaw rightfully stated it was an unwinnable war for any power name even one super power that has managed to keep a part of its country intact with non shared land border or sea connection

@@MohammedShafiq-id5ov whether the war was won or lost is not based upon the who has low casualities ,it is based upon whether the objectives of war is met or not only. 1. You guys started the kargil war by occupying the heights when indian army vaccated for winter .Your war objective is to push the india to negotiation table. But the objective was not achieved. So you lost the kargil war. It doesn't matter who have high casualites what matters is whether the main goal for which the war is started is achieved or not . It was Your PM who went to US first. Clinton find there is no usefull reason for supporting your aggression . 2. 1965 war also you guys started the by invading kashmir but ended up by defending lahore. You war objective is to capture kashmir but that didn't happen . This is also a huge loss for pak.

@@donv3179 1965 was a complete standoff because you are ignoring the fact that India opened a huge front to lahore. If your objectives was to relieve pressure from Kashmir then why you guys opened a huge front with 100,000 offensives in first place??? Shuja bajwa too stated that Indian objectives was to capture Lahore and destabilise military sects but they failed. About, operation gilbraltar you need to look up on "rann of Kutch" first
