Good intro to the Ops Chief rate. I've been doing this job since 2013 and really enjoy it. As TWM points out, it's not for everyone--you spend a LOT of time at sea--but I find a lot of satisfaction in being out there supporting our Fleet and our allies as well, and building an effective working relationship with all of the department heads and Captain. Perhaps the best part of this job is the very short chain-of-command for the Ops Chief. While I am technically part of Deck Department, my list of reportable seniors comes down effectively to the NavOps and the Master.

Behind you ,to your right on the book shelf ,is that an English -Tagolog Dictionary?Looks like the one I had for years.Bought it in the Subic NEX in 1983 when I was on the USNS Navasota.

Great video thanks for the information. Very helpful. I received a conditional offer for ops chief but I am still waiting for notice on my application for the radio technician advance program!

Good video! Quick question. An Ops Chief can’t “level up” and become NAVOPS?
@thewanderingmariner3 ай бұрын
OPS chief is a source rating, but you need to complete schooling, certs, qualifications, sea time, watches and pass some exams to become a 3rd mate. Then you can promote to NAVOPS. Doable..... but not a direct path for the job.
