I've been enjoying watching your videos on the xhdata d-808 and the Tecsun pl-330. I have some thoughts, particularly around the soft muting while tuning. It seems that, oddly enough, having more QRM in the environment makes the d-808 less annoying to tune. Presumably the noise is coming through the MLA-30? I've tuned SW on the whip and it feels quite slow to me to scan around the bands, unless some noise does show up. It seems the 330 might be slightly slower to respond while tuning, but its overall more consistent between noise and no noise on the band. I did note the overloading with the MLA-30 on the 808, how is this on the pl-330? From the videos I've seen, it seems to have a better circuit for external antennae. Of course, the answer to no muting is to spend the money and get something like the pl-880 or 990.

I have a more recent D-808 with the orange display. The trick of starting the freq with a zero doesn't work. The display will then show an "error" message.

Thank you for this! I learned something new-to-me which I will use next time I pull my hxdata out. That lock button though! I think it's in a terrible spot and I still hit it accidentally. It took me forever to realize what happened first time I did it.

About the battery level indicator, I have the new version and it works just fine. After a full charge it does indicate full, then gradually indicates drain after a couple days of use.

Hi. Thank you for this. I have both versions of the D808. With the exception of the display colour, there are no real differences between them. The D808 remains the best value radio in its class. 73s and GDX.

Mine came with practical no instructions. I can't seem to make the frequency come up. Can you not simply type in the frequency you want?

you press the FREQ button and enter the frequency it kicks in automatially on 10000 + if you tune below 10000 you press FREQ again to confirm

@OfficialSWLchannel OK, I am making progress. It likes to jump to another frequency after a few seconds. So I simply hit frequency button again to hold that chosen frequency? I will work on it some more. It is way more computerized than my hf rig I bought in '96. Thank you for the help.

How can you tell when you get overloading. Not sure what that means?

Overload can be noticed when a nearby frequency strong station suddenly mixes with the signal you are listening on another frequency

That chuffing noise on tuning is so annoying I hate my xh data for that it’s not a cheap radio

DSP based receivers are all like that. this is a low priced radio, you need to either go to older PLL receivers that are still available or higher End receivers like the Tecsun 880 990 h-501x or Sangean ATS-909X2 to voir the muting

I can't find a way to scan all bands automatically and listen to rhe frequencies one by one without finding them in storage TheD-808 does not have a ETM function . I know if you press SW button it will scan but I can't find the fequenciies one by one by turning the tuning knob slowly after a full scan is done on all bands. Display shows a signal saved in ATS .- is this the only way to find found signals in one night's session?

The scan of the D-808 stores stations in memory pages that you have to bring back using the page function, it is not like the ETM where you just tune the knob

The newer model apparently doesn't have the front end filters like the old one? so its not as good in high QRM (interference) areas
