The .408 CheyTac's parent case is the .505 Gibbs, not the .50 BMG. The .408 was made to be a middle ground between the .50 and the .338 Lapua. the .408 is supersonic beyond 2000 yards and preforms better at subsonic speeds than the Lapua.
