Hi, I joined this parts from the Watershed DVD when Mikael Akerfeldt and Frederik Akesson grabed their guitar and started to play. Hope you enjoyed it! \m/

One thing I like about this band is their capability to transition from the most ruthless and heaviest passage in a song, to an emotional one. Also, Mikael is truly gifted when it comes to songwriting.

You pretty much summed up what Opeth are as a band.
@mellowtron2143 жыл бұрын
It’s even in the Yen/Yang logo for Opeth. From the O itself, to the organic flowing foliage and the spiked harsh lettering. I would only say that they don’t transition from heavy to emotion, since heavy is an emotion itself. They transition from brutal, evil, harsh and sporadic, to pillowy earthen ethereal winding offshoots. I think Dirge For November is one of their finest songs to showcase that transition. It has an almost ambient romantic autumnal section, that is slashed open by one of the most demonic sounding tunes they’ve ever made. Opeth is one of a kind for sure

Peter Lindgren’s solos were really great too, idk why Mikael says Peter was not creative when he actually wrote some really good solos in Deliverance & Damnation.
@tylerjacobson80125 жыл бұрын
Mikael has a very classic prog rock style of soloing. Reminds me of Andy lattimer. His greatest attribute is the notes he chooses to fill his solos with. He seems to pick the notes perfectly for each one. Akesson is a phenomenal soloist. He’s got a very classic metal shred style. You can tell he listened to schenker and metal when he started playing. I’m not a huge fan of his watershed solos but he really has became a phenomenal player with recent prog opeth releases. He adopted this wonderful jazzy fusion style mixed with some metal attitude that really works well. They’re both great. Akesson is a much better guitar player than lingren ever was too.

zero tolerance he does not write Frederik’s solos

@@nicolausteslaus If you watch the mini documentary; "The making of Deliverance and Damnation" he says something in the line of: "I write all the songs, the basic stuff, but if they want to change something I want to hear what they have to say." It is also very prominent that he doesn't write all the solos

I could watch a whole fucking show of this. Mike on acoustic and vocals, and Fred shredding on the electric. It's raw, it's powerful, and it proves that even if you strip down Opeth songs to their core - they are fucking incredible. Great songwriting. Great fucking band.

Hex Omega has to be one of my favourite Opeth songs of all time... so magestic and enigmatic (reminds me of Porcupine Tree's song "Dark Matter"). I love the new direction Opeth took. It was weirder and so organic. When I finally grew accustomed to it, it was truly rewarding.
