The reason Morbid Angel cancelled that show is explained in a documentary of theirs. Basically the van carrying all there equipment crashed (on the same road where Cliff Burton died believe it or not). Loads of guys tried to get them enough equipment to play but it wasn't happening, frustrating for the band and fans.

About 25 years ago, when visiting a rock club in Stockholm I found Jonas of Katatonia there and while I was talking to him he introduced to me his friend which was Mikael of Opeth. So suddenly I was talking to not only one of the guys of my favorite band ever, but also to two guys from my two of my favorite bands ever (go figure) and was thus star struck not only once but twice. And they kept on telling me how close they were, in unspeakable terms (I'm sure ironic, but yeah)
