Ian Anderson did indeed perform flute and narration. However, he had nothing to do with producing the record. Producing credits go to Mikael Åkerfeldt, Stefan Boman, and Dave Stewart.

It is a concept album and worth to make a full review. A sign means paragraph. Paragraph to the final will and testament in this case. There are 7 paragraphs in the album and last song called “Story never told”. Probably the most complicated album of Opeth. Need many listens to fully appreciate.

When I heard Ian Anderson would be on the record, I thought that ONLY Opeth could have a flute solo that doesn't...suck. And it sure as hell doesn't suck.

You really need the whole album reaction to this concept album. the songs are chapters in his last will and testament. The family discover a lot of skeletons in the closet and are left with nothing.

With Opeth, I learned that it's stupid to have prejudices about music and instruments, like you say about brass instruments. Check out the band White Ward, album False Light - how they use brass instruments
