I made a cucumber eucalyptus mint soap with organic cucumbers. So because they were organic i blended the whole thing up and froze it into cubes and mixed them in with aloe vera and lye. Turned out really pretty. I used a little bit of powdered kale to give it a pale green color.

@@OpheliasSoapery is it a good thing or a bad thing? I have started to make soap and the last two batches I have done overheated. By the way, loved all your videos. They all look mesmerizing and hypnotic.

Stupid question - does overheating impact how good the soap... uh... is soap-y? I mean, does it make it less effective as a soap, or is it merely a problem with how it looks? Does/will it otherwise perform properly?

Was the cucumber an additive or did u do a water discount. And when it comes to sugar how much should you add? I know it helps with bubbles. I'm new to soaping.
@OpheliasSoapery2 жыл бұрын
I did such a steep discount I didn’t subtract anymore to count for the cucumber. I used 1tsp per pound of oils. I do not use sugar anymore. I felt it would heat my batter up too fast :)
@jbenton2202 жыл бұрын
@Ophelia’s Soapery ok. So I could use cucumber puree on top of a water discount and not have to subtract the cucumber. I did read that sugar does heat up batter quickly. Is there anything else that helps create more lather and bubbles?
@OpheliasSoapery2 жыл бұрын
I found changing my super fat from 5% to 8-9% helped with bubbles. More coconut oil can give more bubbles but it also makes it more drying so if you use 20% coconut oil I would super fat 8% castor oil helps too. I use 10%

Why did you add additional sugar to the soap ?(asking out of curiosity) When I made a batch with Cucumber Puree, Milk and Honey, the soap scorched after a while when I set it to rest. Later I learnt that it was due to the high sugar content in my soap. It was still safe to use but it changed in color. Did you cool the batter once it was in the mold to prevent Gel Phase?
@OpheliasSoapery4 жыл бұрын
Since you added milk and sugar. That’s why it scorched I bet. Milk heats up and sugar does too. I do not use milk so I just used the sugar for extra bubbles :)
