There's something really magical and poetic about that encounter with Johnny Cash. Also ironic because its something straight out of a Tarantino movie ( like when Christian Slater meets Elvis in his screenplay of True Romance.) Almost like Cash was sent like an old wise angel by the Film Gods to share that elevater ride with Tarantino to help him see the film in a new light and maybe give it another chance. As a incredibly passionate, young auteur in the beginning of his career where he felt he had so much to say, I feel he had already made up his mind up about what he thought of N.B.K. before seeing it in one sitting, because of the frustration of not getting the chance to direct it and create his own stylish vision and his opinion was always going to be tainted. Bet he wouldn't hate it if he saw it now when he's older himself.

Tarantino said he wanted it to be diamonds but thought that had been done so he went with the glowing golden light

The scar on the back of Marcellus's head, which is visible throughout most of the film, is where his soul was taken from. Not only that, the combination on the briefcase was 666 - the number of the devil. This theory came about seemingly because Chinese culture has it that the soul is removed from the back of the head.
