That is one, well-worn Opinel. Nice. I have an Opinel #8 stainless I haven't used much.... need to change that! What's nice about Opinels are how light they are.

They are very light indeed ! I'll use it this summer when I'll be hiking more than camping. That Opinel has been in my family for at least 40 years, unknown prior history. I carved the handle and reground the broken tip. Do you have the ash wood handle ? A little carving around the nail slot helps a lot. Also rounding off the edges, removing the varnish, and dipping it in boiled linseed oil is recommended 🫡

Thanks brother ! 🫡 Somehow, firesteel sounds more traditional to most people. Thing is, ferrocerium was used for lighters before ferrorods ! Even matches and bic lighters are more traditional than ferrorods 🤣 Charring material is such a fundamental of fire making / survival ! 🫡

@ARAW-__- Hah! Precisely! Yeah, and it only gets worse, as one gets older. Ah, but it's worth it, I think. I've damaged my hands with martial arts and snare drumming, mostly, through the years- Both excellent and enriching activities. 👍👍

@RyanR-ty2nw Martial Arts definitely take a toll on hands ! Thinking Karate, muay thai... It's all a trade-off, what do you gain, and at what price.
