I do have to disagree about the score and cast size. Every score moment felt intentional, and every character had a connection to Oppenheimer, either in helping to achieve the bomb or in aiding in his (attempted) downfall. Now, having said that, I share your total passion for this film. Such an experience!!!!! I still can’t get over how gripping and absorbing it was. Thank you, Christopher Nolan!!!!!

You can tell when a movie is truly great when it keeps coming back to you days after a viewing. Even for some of the other movies that have been incredible the past few years, I rarely get that feeling. I'm not always the biggest fan of Nolan's narratives, but this film really felt like the culmination of what he's learned over his past 20 years as a director.

saw it 2nd time at 70mm Imax and Metreon and it does provide new perspective. Simply fantastic and some performances stand up even more 2nd time around. Alden Ehrenreich is one of those performances. Blunt also hit you hard 2nd time around. Nolan is masterful and performances are top notch.

While I don't think it was a perfect film, I did love it and gave it a 9/10 Just to nitpick, the film lost a bit of momentum after the explosion scene but later picked up again thanks to the wonderful acting of Blunt and mainly Downey Jr. The movie is dialogue heavy and at times difficult to follow but one can find the path easily and get back on track with the storylines. Cillian Murphy was exceptional!! What a quiet storm of a performance. I was leaning into Cooper after seeing Maestro but now I am rooting for Murphy. What a wonderful year for Best Actor! Even Paul Giamatti (in The Holdovers) would be a great win. I see Oppenheimer getting double digit nominations and winning multiple awards including Best Picture and Best Director. I would also give it Actor, Supporting Actor, Sound, Editing, and Score. A fantastic film!

I saw Oppenheimer the first showing of the Thursday night preview screening at the nearest IMAX and I love the film. Defiantly one of the best films of the year for me. Cillian Murphy is amazing, nice he finally got to be the lead of a Nolan film and Emily Blunt is amazing in her role. Matt Damon is great as is Robert Downey, Jr. who really steals every scene he’s in. Florence Pugh is great as is everybody, no matter how small the part, from Casey Affleck to Kenneth Branagh and Gary Oldman’s scene as President Harry S. Truman is just amazing. The script and direction is flawless by Nolan, the score is fantastic, cinematography is top notch. The recreation of the atomic bomb is stunning. I love this film. This deserves a slew of awards nominations and wins. To me, it defiantly should be a front runner for: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (RDJ), Best Supporting Actress (Blunt), Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Production Design and any other categories one could think of. It’s great to hear your thoughts on the film Brian, I hope you have a great rest of your weekend, take care!

Oppenheimer is for me perfection. I cannot find one bad thing to say about this film. It will sweep awards season with ease. I think it will receive 11 Oscar nominations and win at least 8. Cillian Murphy's performance was outstanding I loved everything about his character it was intriguing, genuine and by far perfectly acted. Another performance that I think will not only get nominated but win is Robert Downey Jr what a performance. A man who betrayed Oppenheimer and turned into his worst enemy perfect performance. I think Christopher Nolan nailed it one of his best films of his entire career. I think Nolan will win Best Director, best adapted screenplay and Best Picture. By far Oppenheimer is the movie to beat come awards season.

Credit to Nolan who was able to attract academy award winners for only one or two scenes in the movie - Rami Malik, Gary Oldman, Ken Branagh, et al. all could have been played by "extras" but top performers want to work on Nolan films. when Nolan calls you say yes then find out what the role is. I think I was Pugh who said Nolan almost seamed to try to put her off with just how small the role was.

Great review, Brian! On the technical front, this was an incredibly well made movie. Definitely worthy of Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Cinematography, Editing, Score, and to win Sound. There were moments I was shocked and surprised by both the silence and the creative use of sound mixing in the movie. Cillian carried the movie very well and can emote & express himself in a unique way that makes him stand out. Robert Downey Jr. delivered his best performance since Chaplin and should be a strong contender for supporting actor. Would not be surprised to see Ludwig Göransson win another Oscar for Best Score as well. I was very surprised Florence Pugh had so little screen time as her arc was one of the most interesting ones in the film. Emily Blunt had 2 really good Oscar moments that would make her a contender for Supporting Actress. What a wonderful weekend Barbenheimer was, one of the best Cinematic experiences I've had in a while. Thank you for another great video!

I totally agree! This movie was phenomenal, but the two female characters were under developed, and these two really strong actresses were definitely under-utilized. Nolan does tend to be a better director with men than women, I agree with you there. I've noticed that in every Nolan film, so that just might be outside of his wheelhouse still? That's my one main criticism. Otherwise, it was incredible and certainly Oscar worthy!

Given my hubby & father in law work as SFX on set they were geeking out about the explosions actually being real-mostly smaller scale. But they took in a bunch of different explosions & layered them as plates over each other the achieve the look. We went to the IMAX showing & it didn’t even feel like 3hrs. If I didn’t have to work early I’d be at the VES screening tonight. It was so good. But I agree Chris Nolan really has some issues with female characters. Both Jean & Kitty were massively complex IRL. But then I remember things are from Oppenheimer’s POV & he saw them as remote ideals to be ignored when out of sight.

It’s also not about them. On the second watch I picked up on the “womanizer” claim. The blonde who flirted with him at party. Later in movie, somebody says she’s sad her husband died. “Heart attack,” Oppie says bluntly. “Heartbroken,” the guy retorts. Female characters have roles commensurate to their impact in telling the story. Both Pugh and Blunt have pivotal if few scenes.

It’s interesting how you mention that Nolan has never been a great director for and of women. He’s a genius filmmaker, but yes, his movies are certainly highly androcentric, clearly what one could even call “men’s pictures”. I bring it up only because of the contrast with Barbie, which is clearly against the patriarchy and an exaltation of the matriarchy. Both films got the absolutely perfect people to direct them. Gerwig who excels at feminist films, and Nolan who’s a master of masculism. No other people would have been remotely qualified, or capable, of mastering these two ridiculously different films. I’m exceptionally partial to “Oppenheimer” - no, I’m not too much of a big fan of Gerwig’s film - but I’m happy that great cinema is being given to us by the best and most qualified filmmakers. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Oppenheimer is less like a movie and more like a 3-hour-long trailer -- frenetic, way too many scenes and characters (a majority with bad accents), and the unending score is overbearing. There were positives. The movie is very cinematic, with an incredible performance by Cillian Murphy, and it raises some very vital moral questions. But Nolan's obsession with scientific and political bureacracy doesn't generate sufficient light or heat.

Tooooo Long. When was it decided that elite movies had to be 3 or 4 hours long. I think this movie could have been told in 2 - 2.25 hours. I think there will be some acting nominations, but Christopher Nolan's inability to do justice to women in his movie has probably cost Emily Blunt a nomination. I did like the story better than Barbie. I think both of these movies real competition is Killers of The Flower Moon. I think if that movie is as good as they think it is going to be Margot Robbie will lose best actress to Lily Gladstone, because I don't think the Academy can possibly pass up the chance to give an acting award to the first Native American. Ryan Gosling may have a tough challenge from Jesse Plemons, who I would love to see win an Oscar. I think the winner between Cillian and Leo will depend on which picture wins best Picture. I don't think Christopher Nolan will win Best Director because I don't think Hollywood likes him and although he has won before, I think almost everyone believes Martin Scorsese should have won more and the Departed was in 2007 so enough years have passed since his win.

They can make the talk short becase useless... Long dialoge with nothing... They want speak alot but they have nothing to tell... If peaple know scaintific thing..they will feel they dont know about it. Must dont make film flashback in the firt... Must make it about the begining of oppenhimer life.. After his work in project. And they make final scence with amrican presdent.. but they dont stop..after that make triel and artifical feeling. And alpert anstine they make him comidian. Emely blant...🤔 ( comparse )( skarts) .. no role.. she far from oscar nommination or win... Her role nothing. Silant..small..normal..and the auther dont make it good becase he dont focus in the life of oppenhimer. They but her to tesfy.. same rami malik.. but they try to enlarge the lore but dont work. Ramy malik.. nothing. One sceane he have pincle and paper.. And he make oppinhimer insant..so stup scean. Krostofer nolan Must but name of film( manhatin program) Not oppinhimer. Becase he talk about some thing not undivual. I enjoy to watch it But clear worng film artisticle... And no all the peaple will understand. The leading actor ❤❤❤ And robert jonior❤ Thank yooou👍❤❤❤

Why are people afraid of calling shit like it is. I love Christopher Nolan but Oppenheimer was shit. I love Tarantino but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was shit. Why are people calling shit a masterpiece just because of the respect of the director? I didn’t like it and I took it like that. I never thought I need to watch it again to make myself like it.

In your opinion the film is crap. About 95% of reviewers disagree with you. And sold out audiences. Maybe it’s the quality of your taste in film that’s💩

I will save you the money and time... Oppenheimer was just a 3 hour movie about politics and a game of who is the communist... That is literally it that's all the movie was about.... Boring AF

Watching this movie was like drinking from a fire hose while somebody was constantly yelling at me and a flashlight on my face.
