J. Robert Oppenheimer led the development of the world’s first nuclear weapon, the atomic bomb.
But Oppenheimer was famously opposed to building hydrogen bombs, or H-bombs.
So what makes the two nuclear weapons different?

Tsar Bomba was actually designed to be twice as powerful, but the Soviets were worried it was too big for the bomber crew that dropped it to escape, so they only put a half-powered core in it. The bomber barely got away from it.

Scientists get inspiration from Shrimad Bhagwat whether it is J. Robert Oppenheimer, Neil Bohr, Albert Einstein. Famous statement spoken by scientists about Shrimad Bhagwat. The words Oppenheimer famously quoted from the Bhagavad Gita - “Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds” Famous scientist's statement on Sanatan dharma "I go into the Upanishads to ask questions." Niels Bohr, Nobel Prize winning physicist and a founder of Quantum Theory. "Quantum theory will not look ridiculous to people who have read Vedanta." (Vedanta is the conclusion of vedic thought)~Werner Heisenberg German physicist, co-founder of Quantum Physics & Nobel Prize winner. Erwin Schrödinger ,"Most of ideas and theories heavily influenced by Hinduism" The great 20th century physicist, Erwin Schrödinger, who co-invented quantum theory, claimed in his autobiography that he obtained his central intuition from the Vedas. Albert Einstein,“When I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous.” In 1922, he was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect". You can check on the internet to confirm that what I have written is correct.

Splitting one U235 nucleus yields in average 200 MeV energy. Fusion of a Deuterium and a Tritium nucleus (isotopes of Hydrogen) yields about 17 MeV. There happen 10000 or more times as much of these latter fusions in the H-bomb than U235 splitting in the A-bomb. (I know this is not an exact answer, it's hard to go into specifics in a one-liner.)

Fusion requires immense amount of pressure to cause subatomic particles to quantum tunnel and interact with other nucleus. This happens in the sun due to it strong gravity and happens in H-bombs due to the pressure from the initial fission explosion. But we haven't figured out how to create a stable pressure environment to reliably invoke that tunneling mechanism.

@keiranallcott1515 Yes, they create fussion with fission and built-up the isotope expansion to literally set the air on fire.. BTW, the inside is cased in Styrofoam, and that is where that invention was used initially. The properties of Styrofoam make it evaporate extremely fast while still keeping the rest of the stages, snuck, and exactly placed to control the birth of a little sun for approximately 9 seconds.

It's basically an oil product, but it's dry and never rusts, and the insulation and isolation applications are perfect for all weather conditions, and it takes a lot of millennium to dissolve... even in acetone, which eats most oil based products it turns into glue, and spraying acetone on a block of Styrofoam, you can basically shape into the perfect casing inside a safe or a door for protection from cold and fire, as long as it is air tight..
