Oppo A9 (2020) Review | Quad Camera, 5000mAh, £220!

Reviewing the Oppo A9 2020, one of the most budget-friendly smartphones to hit the UK at just £220. With its quad-lens camera setup, mighty 5000mAh battery and Moto G8 Plus style specs, the A9 2020 is one of the best cheap Android mobiles of the year. Here's what I think of the performance, battery life, camera tech and other features after a full week of using Oppo's blower as my personal handset.
We all know that more isn't necessarily better, but the quad lens shooter around back is actually pretty good for a budget camera-phone. You'll see some oversaturation in everyday photos, but the portrait and night modes work well and that wide angle lens adds some welcome flexibility.
The 6.5-inch display may just offer HD visuals, but those visuals are still crisp enough for enjoying shows on the go and the Oppo A9 2020's stereo speaker setup is also impressive at this cheap price. Meanwhile the Snapdragon 665 platform backed by 4GB of RAM means respectable everyday performance and you can even do light gaming with PubG Mobile.

I reckon you're right, the level of quality and competition has massively increased in the budget/mid-range market these past couple of years. There'll always be a place for premium, but people are realising they don't need an S10 or iPhone for everyday stuff...

I bought this phone 3 months ago for $230 US. I am mostly happy with it. Adding an app like Open Camera really helps in shooting video. Also, add a gimbal and get real cinematic footage. I shoot video and edit on my PC for color grading, sound enhancement, etc. This really a fine phone for the cost.

Thanks for providing these no nonsense, easy to follow reviews. I've currently got a Nokia 6.1 that I've had for just under 2 years, but I'm having issues with it (the touch screen gets stuck on the lock screen and the only way to wake it up is with ample amounts of percussive maintenance...and even that doesn't always work) so I am in the market for a replacement but don't want to spend a lot of money. So far, I'm leaning towards the Oppo A9 2020 but the Motorola G8, realme C3 and Vivo y17 have also caught my eye.

I bought this phone a few weeks ago from Cash Converters, still in the wrapper and for just £130 and I'm pleased with it overall. I've just updated it to Android 10 and it works fine. It is quite fast even with over 40 apps installed on it. The battery life is impressive as well. The camera isn't too bad either though I wish it had 1080p@ 60fps like my Sony Xperia 10 plus. It's weird that although it has an 720p screen it'll play and stream 4k video with no problems. Really strange.

it's been 6 months now and my experience is great i mean i did bought that accidentally 😅 i wasn't proud of that but as time passed i releaize what exactly important is... 1. a big battery tht last more than a day even with playing COD 30 min aday 2.a good camera i mean decent and better than my J7 Samsung 3.and the rest it's smooth I haven't seen any lags.. though i got Android 10 update so overall after 6 months I'm satisfied and i think it'll last a year or 2 so if anyone thinking of buying one..pick the highest variant you'll good to go. #techspurtfan 👍🏻

I'm watching this in my Oppo a9 2020. I have to say it's a pretty decent phone for that price. The camera feature is acceptable (especially the night mode it doesnt do a lot). Other than that, the overall is quite nice like the specs, battery, screen, speaker(quite loud),and all the feature. For Budget I LOVE IT.

If you had more budget and wanted to buy a phone better than this, i recommend it .it's your choice. if you want the camera to be excellent as iphone or google pixel i have to say it didn't go that far. The camera still has great quality and the dazzle color feature was breathtaking. Also the video wasnt stable enough when taking. I recommend download a third party app to edit photos and use google photos to fix your shaky footage. Overall, the specs was great. My favourite feature it has was Dolby atmos speaker(top and bottom speaker) their very loud. Just ask any question and i will reply immediately. Or you can dm me to my instagram @amrl_akimi

I recently bought this phone and can honestly say that I am delighted with it. I particularly like the 'user friendliness' of it (compared to my previous 'phone). I had never heard of the "oppo" phone, so I was a little wary to start with, but I took a chance, and I am so glad I did. Any 'short comings' it may have, I really haven't noticed. It's just so easy to use and performs beautifully.... What more can you ask for ?

After for almost 5years my OPPO A9 2020 is still alive still this today, but in gaming its sucks because the SNAPDRAGON 665 this chip cant run heavy games anymore in good frames per second...

So I bought an Oppo A9 2020 to replace my 3 year old Honor 9 who's battery was failing, it only cost me £165 from Amazon. I ran them side by side and by the time the Oppo was down to 51%, I checked the Honor to find it was on 64%. Hmmm. I did this several times so I finally had the Oppo replaced. Got the new one and NFC does not work, neither does phone clone. I am busy using Google to restore my stuff from the Oppo but if I get same battery life this one is going back too. Remember everyone, some reviewers do it for money. Some simply repeat what's been written without actually testing. And of course...you get what you pay for!

I have just got this phone and I am surprised that no-one seems to have pointed out how bad the screen is in direct sunlight .It turns into a mirror so that all you can you see is your face and what is behind you even with brightness at full level. .This is despite claims by oppo that it has a sunlight screen that allows it to be seen çlearly..I have tried other phones which are better and I am annoyed that oppo makes this claim.I phoned oppo and was told that sunlight screen is on Reno phone not a9 2020. I think all reviewers should try to test phones in sunlight if at all possible as it is important for both text and photography.

I have the galaxy A70. Love the phone except I found the Wi-Fi isn't the strongest when you go a bit out of range compared to my old HTC 10 and same for 3g/4g, it's lower by about 1 bar. The battery has dropped off as well from 8hr SOT to 6hrs. so I'm thinking of getting of getting the oppo a9. Worth it?

Hey, have you tried to check if all the cameras are being used? I noticed when you cover the camera for portrait it doesnt matter coz only the middle.camera.works and the ultra wide. The portrait and the night mode does not.

I've just swapped it out after almost 2 years of use. Camera was very unstable and unpredictable at times. Updates seemed to take away wide angle view and has already began to lag the phone down. All in all though it was a blimin great phone for the price!

Paul's Asperger Vlogs hi, buy the oppo f11. I have the a9 and the f11. The a9 takes hours and hours to charge. The screen is super weird, too. Its grainy? Anyways, the oopo f11is a bit cheaper, better camera, jaw dropping screen, and it charges in like 20 minutes.
