The actual figure itself has the high engineering transformation. BUT. The QC issues is a problem for mp44.

This is an awesome figure. The trailer makes more sense do to his vehicle mode being an actual representation of a real supercharged semitruck prototype created in the 80s that was never mass produced do to its massive fuel consumption. Seeing pictures of that prototype semi really made me like this even more.

They did a terrific job on this new Rodimus Prime, the transformation is fiddly, but the results are just awesome, his futuristic truck mode and robot mode, they look really well done, and I agree, certainly one of the best Rodimus Prime toys we've ever gotten, awesome review, Paul!

Watching the transformation of this gave me some pause on gett8bg this. I've got the 86 Shattered glass Hot Tod and can see all the similarities but this feels like an overwngineered version of that. I had considered this figure for a while but maybe I'll wait till someone inevitably wants to sell it pre owned.

Hey to close the sides of the trailer better, fold the “shield” parts of the gun platform UP instead of down. Another tip - shave the front shorter handle of his gun down a bit and the back peg will sit nicely on top of the trailer in the hole. One of the stupidest things about this set is his gun folds but still doesn’t FIT anywhere inside the massive trailer.

Hopefully he'll be well worth it, he does look really good. I like how tidy he looks in his bot mode unlike the previous Power Of The Primes version which was a tad kibble heavy to put it mildly.

I love this figure, but man is it a pain to transform. The shoulder wheels are hard to push into place and the double hinge arms are very difficult to tab in. The legs can also be a problem when trying to seat them properly for car mode. Im always afraid Im going to break it. I also thought the black leg plastic could be a little less flimsy considered you have to bow it out a little bit to get the back wheel in or out for the legs. The trailer was excellent though and plenty of weapons for him. I like it, but I still think Cyclonus is the standard for this set.

I think, at this point MP Transformers is dead. The quality on MOST of the new Hasbro stuff, seems to be good enough, at a WAY lower price point, particularly since MP's have raised their Prices so high. Hasbro seems to be going back over its MP releases and doing the G1 stuff to replace the MP format. This Rodimus is good enough for Rodimus. So much so, I wouldn't feel the need to go MP Rodimus, and though I have the DX9 from way back, I felt like that was good enough. This Commander class is basically, their cheaper retool of an MP style Transformer. Leaders are around 50-55 bucks. Titans are 160 (Buy them on sale). Commander is that midpoint where, over 100 would be crazy, it's not an MP, but we have to charge more than a Leader due to the tooling etc. Let's meet the customer halfway and go 75. Wait, they took the bait on this on previous releases? Let's go 85 now =p. Yeah, I see you Hasbro =p.

I’m glad to see the figure looks excellent but I just can’t find a way to justify the purchase. He looks to truly live up to the Rodimus Prime title but honestly I think I’ll just go with the Studio Series Hot Rod and stick with that.

Just like Hot Rod in comparison with Deluxes, there's a lot of extra packed into this figure that makes it better than the typical $30 Voyager-sized figure. That said, I agree that if you don't want the trailer then it probably is overpriced as that is still a significant fraction of the cost. For my part, I love the trailer and the whole package so it easily justifies being a commander class to me and is well worth the price. I suspect there will be a lower-cost trailer-free release at some point with just the main figure (like Netflix Optimus Prime) so that may be a good option for folks who don't want the trailer.

@@redshark92 Fair enough on being more than $30. Still I can’t shake the fact that I just won’t use the trailer much. It was easier to justify buying the Earthrise dead Optimus for me because it was cheaper and frankly the trailer functions well as a death bed but this just isn’t doing it for me. It’s a cool battle platform and all but I don’t really have a lot of that kind of thing in my displays and I just wouldn’t be inclined to display him with it.

I couldn't afford it so just ended up getting POTP version. It's not bad-I use the "Hotrod" robot mode as Rodimus. He is beefier and more mature-looking than SS Hotrod and I use the official Rodimus robot mode as a trailer combine super robot mode!

I like the POTP version still. I got it when this was announced because it seemed decent, and it was! (It was also wayyyy cheaper). I use the "Hotrod" robot as Rodimus and it just has a trailer combine mode similar to how some of the Optimus figures can combine with their trailer for a super robot. I like the size difference of the POTP "Hotrod compared with the SS Hotrod and he just looks like Rodimus. I also like how his face is a bit more mature without looking like Kup's older brother (like the commander class version does LOL)

I'm sorry but after watching yours and emgo review of this toy I can't refrain to call both reviews as BAD COMEDY. How do you call WFC Siege Shockwave a bad toy in the Leader class price point even insulting Hasbro but you can't do the same with "Commander class" Rodimus Prime being as both figures are Voyager class size ACTION FIGURES with "accessories". The empty trailer adds nothing to the base figure. Jeez, the "drone" for Jetfire adds more playability and versatility to the figure than the trailer for Rodimus. it is egregious how both of you get in the way of not comparing this commander class toy to the previous very good Commander toys. Some issues: Rodimus with his trailer weight less, much less, than the previous Commander toys. That trailer is nothing besides a box of empty plastic with bad QC control and with a bunch of 5mm ports for what ???.... for what are all those ports???? The wheels are underpainted. In fact, many features of this toy lack paint. Even Siege Shockwave has more paint than this thing. Better yet compare the paint alongside SkyLynx. FFS. That turret with the two cannons is not modular enough. A pair of holes from the trailer could have been used here. The cannons should have been removeable in the same way you can remove the cannons from Jetfire and make bigger weapons with them. ohhh... and the joke of black blaster effects... Bad comedy.

The only other current Commander I have is Jetfire. Yes, Rodimus + Trailer weighs less than Jetfire, but he's also designed a hell of a lot better. The Jetfire figure is great, but the transformation and engineering is really simple and that is a factor. As to the main figure, he's Voyager sized but he's not a Voyager. Comparing him side-by-side with any Voyager reveals a large difference in quality and engineering. re: Shockwave, I think the issue with him as a Leader is there wasn't any reason for it. The extra accessories were just made up out of nowhere to justify the bump. Earthrise Prime is similar, but fewer people complain about him because his accessories are actually relevant to the character, just like Rodimus.
