Thank you for posting this video. My dipstick broke off on my 2013 Optimax and I will be sure to get it out of the tank before I encounter the same problem you did.

We're you able to get the dipstick out?

Robert, thanks for this video. My oil filler cap retainer broke off several years ago. Due to health issues, my boat has not been used for four years. I plan to retrieve the stem first, and then clean the VST, plugs and injectors. Of course, I will install new fuel filters. Thanks again for this video. I’ve never seen one like it with this issue!

I bet that's something most of us wouldn't think about. Thanks for the tip

Great job on diagnosing and fixing the issue. Some info, the earlier model Optimax had a chain level indictor which was a little hard to detect the oil level so they went to the stick type. Also the short lead from the sensor to the connector you see in your later model is on purpose. The short lead places the connector under the tank so it's much more difficult for the "backyard" marine mechanic to jump the terminals in the connector for easy diagnosis of a bad sensor. This can also just bypass the bad sensor altogether to run, ongoing of course ensuring your oil is at a safe level by removing the cowling where you can accurately see the level in the tank. Or to be safe, just simply topping up your level before each outing. If I owned the model with the stick indicator I'd replace it with the chain just to avoid your exact problem.

Only one suggestion next time all you have to do is pull that half of the bottom shroud. It would have cut your repair time drastically. But great job anyway!!!

Thank you for the video, and maybe you can help me with my Optimax. I have one Optimax 115 from 2005, with 3 cylinders. The problem I have is not the motor itself, but the leakage from the top of the oil tank on the motor, when I tilt the motor (when I want to keep the prop out from the water, or when I am transporting the boat). I have changed the gasket, but it is still leaking when the motor is tilted. The oil tank is full, and I do not know what to do. Any suggestion? Thanks again:)

Hello, 2005 150 Optimax for me, I have a similar issue, except mine is alarming 4 beeps every two minutes and will not plane out. I am ordering a new OEM oil reservoir for the side of the motor because mine is also leaking around the cap. It always beeped but I knew the float was no good. Other than the annoying 4 beeps the boat ran fine. That is until it started leaking around the cap. Now it will not jump up on plane idle speed only. Once I get my new tank in and mounted I will try it out and let you know what happens!:)

Does it leak oil when you take the tank out? My tank is currently full. If so, how do you drain it?
