I'm a retired auto mechanic. In the automotive world to get more power from an engine one of the things that can be done is switching to a hotter fuel. Like switching from pump gas to methanol. My point is, and question. Do you see any indication that 24volts will be utilized? That would have a dramatic affect on lowering watt/amp usage. I know many automakers are already using 48v (vs. standard 12v) for some applications. Not to mention hybrids with well over 400v. 12 volts at 100 watts draws 8.3 amps. By switching to 24 volts at 100w, amps drops to 4.2. That's much less stress on circuitry and wire thickness.

Was really looking forward to your video y'day on the FE, it's a shame they didn't send you one, maybe bcoz of limited stock, but considering Hardware Canucks got 2 after replacing a defective one, I doubt why they couldn't. Wonder why I didn't see any results for RDR2 @4k, the gap should be bigger there compared to 1440p. Btw the roughly 2x perf. is mostly limited to 4k & games that rely heavily on RT like Minecraft RTX/Quake II RTX. I'm guessing some other games like Deliver us the Moon should also scale well. As far as DLSS % improvement over stock is concerned, I think that should get fixed with DLSS 2.1. Other than that, can't wait for how Ampere translates this jump in performance into laptops. I know reviews are saying the 3080 is excellent for 4K gaming. 1440p @ 144Hz in demanding titles is really what it's for in my opinion. RDR2 still not tested with full settings, with this mix of high/ultra, for this benchmark. Gameplay therefor potentially may have dips under 60fps. The RDR2 benchmark runs in daytime between 62fps to 90fps here. Yet it's night-time stuff in RDR2 that tanks fps, or so I heard.

Thanks for another great video and sorry to hear that you didn’t manage to get an FE card from nvidia. Just wanted to check something... the 60°C temperatures you shared do not include the ambient 21°C, right. The MSI card you have seems to have a bigger cooler and bigger fans than the TUF card so is that to compensate the extra power or do you think that the temperatures will be lower? For instance, the Aorus 3080 master/xtreme cards seem to have the largest cooler, which I was hoping it would make the card near silent. Aorus’ dimensions haven’t been announced yet so let’s hope that it actually fits in SFF cases!

Will the 3080 FE fit in an NZXT H210 with a front-mounted radiator? This is the question for which I hope to obtain an answer before pulling the trigger on the FE. The card's listed length is literally within 1 mm of fitting in my H200 with an EVGA CLC 240mm radiator. It will be so close, either 1mm too long, or 1mm to the good. Which poses another question: If it fits, will my thermals suffer any by having the card nearly in contact with the radiator? Will this not impede or disrupt the incoming airflow at all?
@tadeuferreira57054 жыл бұрын
The gpu is not thermally efficient, it is the cooler that is good enough to dissipate the heat quick enough. As a crude example, a 200W GPU that works at 80c will increase the room temperature slower than a 300W GPU that works at 70c, what is important is the dissipated power and not the gpu temperature.
@tomcanty88564 жыл бұрын
You have to remember that there is significantly less tensor core count in the newer 30 series, so the DLSS improvements (well Tensor Improvements) are quite a bit more than it looks at face value, RT on the other hand that is a bit more of a dissappointment I think.
