I have Anne Pro 2 (60%) and made my Caps Lock work as FN button. Caps Lock + WSAD as arrows and + X as Delete (also +Space as enter, +Z as backspace and +Tab as original Caps Lock). Honestly I find this even better than full size keyboard, everything is right under left hand and there's no need to lift right hand from the mouse.

I love thoccy/low pitched switches on their own, but I’ve found that they’re unusable for me when put in a lot of boards because I simply cannot hear the switch itself. An example would be the kbd67 lite or ikki68 aurora with a pc plate, as those two with their playes and silicon mute the sound way too much. The muted sound is great for silent switches, or louder/higher pitched switches as it even out their sound profile. I put Tealios and Mauves in my ikkis and snow whites and ice candies in my 67 lites.

These looks solid, may be a One 3 TKL for me in the future. I've stuffed around with Anne Pro 2 and now a Keychron K2 but the 60/65% lifestyle just isn't for me. Actually quite a fan of these more garish colours too, if they come out with a red one similar in tone to the QUACK, I'm all in.

TKL < 60% with arrow keys. If this keyboard had arrow keys near the bottom right instead of perhaps a right alt button, and moving around some of the punctuation keys it'd be perfect. TKL somewhat horrible imo. Not only does it have F keys on top but all the extra wasted space on the side near all the home row keys and arrow keys. The form factor is quite literally a chopped full keyboard. If they thought about the design of TKL a little more I'd like it but it's just a chopped full keyboard with no added thought or anything of the sort.
@dioxyde0
@dioxyde0 2 жыл бұрын
@@harrys2331 see, the thing about keyboards, is that its all very subjective. full-size kb is too large but i personally don't think i'd like a tiny 60% keyboard with a big pc and monitor. TKL seems like a good compromise. i use all of my keys apart from numpad which just gathers dust really.

Nice one, might pick this up later on once I can get it in a UK layout, just to dabble with swappable switches. I find having the arrow cluster on the IJKL keys really convenient, and have slowly got used to using them that way. The only thing I would suggest for anyone with a 60% keyboard struggling, or wants to give 60% a go, is to swap the FN key with the caps lock key, and add the modifiers (alt, ctrl, shift) to the ASD keys on the FN layer. For me this works pretty well, and a lot more comfortable as the default FN location on most 60% I don't find to be ideal. For the Caps Lock key which I rarely use, I just mapped that over to the application key (which I never use). Anyway, I went off on a tangent there as this is barely relevant to the video, but hope it serves some use to someone.

Great overview of the Ducky One 3 Mini! I only felt that the sound test could be inproved with a desk mat or something like a piece of cloth to absorb all the vibrations when you are typing it on the table. Edit: changed accurate to improved. I know soundtests are affected by tons of factors, like mic type, mic distance, table materials, and even air temperature, hence are inaccurate when taking these factors in account. But I'll admit I've heard some damn accurate soundtests too in my time here However my point still stands, as without a deskmat, hearing amplified vibrations on especially plastic boards are also far from accurate.

Looks like there will be a few ISO versions, which is a huge selling point. There just aren't that many affordable hotswap ISO boards bigger than 65 percent. If you go the custom board route you'll often run into problems when it comes to dealing with taxes and the customs office (at least here in Germany), that is if you're even able to find cheap but decent quality ISO keycaps. YDMK seems to be a cost effective option but other than that I can't think of many

I’m a happy owner of the ducky one 2 mini SF, 65% keyboard with brown switches. As you said I can’t live without the arrow keys, and one row of extra keys doesn’t bother me. Can imagine myself buying this in a year or so, when my current board gets a bit older. I’m really not a fan of the eye catching colors Ducky does all the time. Then again, my PC has no RGB or LEDs besides the glowing GeForce RTX logo. I am interested in custom keyboards, but a lot of them just look to gamery, I find it hard to get into that scene.

I recently put some lubed and filmed Gateron yellows (linier like reds but with a bit more actuation force which makes it a better experience for typing) into an RK61 and the results have been excellent. I paid just £14 for 66 of them on aliexpress, £6 for films and £5 for Krytox GPL 205g0 lube which I already had from a previous build.

The board is looking like a cute prebuilt for most people. Biggest complaint I have however is that Ducky is still being a big baby and keeping Programmability on board only when plenty of competition around this price range either have their own propriety software (not the most ideal but its still something) or QMK/VIA support. On board programmability is still usable but it keeps out a lot of noobies from messing around with their boards when it could make their experience with smaller form factors like this way better. All in all though its looking to be a really nice board despite its flaws, I just hope this means a 75% jump soon from Ducky to really get that form factor into the mainstream.

For 60% keyboards I just set the CapsLock to the Fn key and use CapsLock(FN)+WASD as arrow keys. Much better than physical arrow keys in my opinion. But it requires the keyboard to support that function, so it needs to be programmable in some way. I started with the Pok3r (by flipping a DIP switch) to later Anne Pro 2 and Niz Atom 66 EC keyboard (flashes the controller with a software). Maybe the Ducky One 3 Mini also has a similar function? A lot do nowadays so I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm intrigued, definitely a step up from the one 2 it's just not too much of a step up that it makes the price worth an arm and a leg.

Put foam below the keyboard itself. Like on the desk. Probs the sound will be less noticable. Cos the board could be just a bit uneven and could cause one corner of it to just constantly hit the ground + compensation of sound even more is good, cos vibrations move through everything.

So I have always gotten razer keyboards as a young gamers. Then I moved on to corsair. I have the K65 and the Mk.2 but there was something to be desired for sure. Now I was torn between the GMMK PRO that would take more work and this Ducky one 3 SF. I ended up with the ducky and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the quality compared to what I had. I am excited to swap the switches as well and check that out. I could see myself possibly starting a small collection of keyboards that I enjoy. as for a daily driver I am very happy with this keyboard. if the TKL was available locally I may have went that route. but SF is really sleek and compact. the only reason I would get a TKL is just for Prt scrn... the tilde key and the longer right shift key very minor things that I am sure I won't miss very much.

At this point people should really just consider getting a custom, the quality jump is night and day. I went from 100% to 60% then HHKB. People will be surprised at how quickly you can adapt and how much more efficient the usage of your keyboard will become.

I just want to weigh in on func+IJKL for arrow keys: If you use the side of your palm to push down the function key, I genuinely think the arrow keys are easier to use with func-IJKL than they are when the arrow keys are separate. Your fingers don't have to leave the home row and then find it again, you just kind of press down with your palm and move your middle finger up one key - boom - arrow keys. And this is coming from a career programmer lol, I use arrow keys non stop when coding. If a keyboard comes with arrow keys, I set up a bind for func+IJKL because it's just better

Thanks for highlighting this. Now hopefully a trend for silence KBs will start and when I'm on a call I'll not be deafened by the constant clattering of someone typing ;)

This is an interesting product, I suspect SF and Mecha lines will follow. Those of us who want aluminum are better off with the Keychron Q2.

Might get this for gaming. I have a custom keeb but it's not great for gaming as the PCB only allows you to hold down a limited number of keys at the same time which can really get in the way. This seems great with the hotswap and added features for sound dampening

Nice video. Why don't you do a video about keyboard latency? You have the knowledge to do it, rtings are the only ones they do it but they don't do it for customs. There is content there for sure too. Please do it!

Hey Optimum and other keyboard fans, Sorry if this runs slightly long, but I just had a question about the Ducky I recently purchased with cherry brown switches. I wanted to feel the difference between those and the Glorious Pandas (which are coming in today). I use this keyboard primarily for gaming, and I went back to a keyboard with cherry blue switches and loved the tactility of them. So I thought that a tactile switch would hopefully give me some of that nice feeling and feedback without annoying the hell out of my mates. With this keyboard and I'm fairly new to tactile switches, I'm having a problem with some switches actuate in game. I first noticed it with my D key. I wasn't moving right with the key pressed. I played around with the switch and noticed it wouldn't actuate half the time if I didn't get it past the bump on the upstroke. I changed the switch out for another and haven't noticed a problem with my D since (no pun). Now I'm starting to have the same issue with my W key. I play a lot of Apex, so you could imagine how jarring it is to think you are moving forward, but you are standing still eating bullets from hungry preds who just want more kills and to rain on your short gaming session. I was wondering is this a problem with tactile switches. Do I always need to get it past the bump on the upstroke? I don't have this problem (yet) with A or S or any of the other keys I spam like inspect while running. It just feels very odd for the key to be bottomed out and not have it actuate. Either way I'm hoping that I solve this issue with the switch swap. But if this is a some what common feature of tactiles, what would be your go to linear?

Do you think the hot swappability contributes to longetivity of the keyboard? Or rather a more appropriate question would be have you ever had a mechanical keyswitch fail on you where the keyboard would be restored to full functionality by replacing a few key switches

I read online that the one 2 series had latency issues. Did they improve the keyboard in that area for the one 3’s?

So I've heard, I watched another video last night about it, they said the One 3 series is less latency issues if any. Not that it was noticeable on the One 2 series for most users.

yeah I personally find that the 60% is perfect for gaming. I liking having more room on the right for my mouse. I have a keypad that has my arrow keys page and delete on the left. I don't really use the function key that much except to hit the F keys. If I was playing an MMO that used a lot of F keys I would just use a keyboard remapping software to make the number row the f row and the numbers can go somewhere else like my pad to the left or my foot switches. Oh yeah, did I mention that foot switches are amazing? lol

My only problem is that they don't supply extra PCB. I messaged them because I broke mine and weren't willing to sell me one. Now I'm stuck with a broken Duck One 2 mini. As a keyboard with hotswap, how do we work with people that messed up in the hobby.

I wonder if the claims that the RTINGS website makes about Ducky One 3 latency are real. On their website they say Ducky one 3 has 5 ms click latency and most other mainstream hotswappable keyboards like Keychron have 10 ms latency. Will you even be able to feel that difference?
