I worked as a staff writer for an enthusiast PC hardware magazine in the 2000's. We had sophisticated benchmarks for easily quantifiable things such as RAM, hard disk, CPU performance etc, but when it came to peripherals, when we simply felt like two pieces of hardware were offering roughly the same performance, we were confident enough to say "no real world difference" or something similar, and give mice or keyboards etc the same performance score. We asked ourselves if it was possible to be more scientific, we usually concluded yes, but we didn't have enough time or expertise to build a fair testing rig, and that was for a large professional team working at a publishing house. This video especially makes me feel like back then we were letting our readers down a little and stifling the efforts of independent engineers. The fact you built a rig with a slow motion camera to test your initial hypothesis, is unbelievably good, in a world where it feels like KZbin content is in a race to the bottom in terms of shortcuts and clickbait, you are raising the game. Well done. I'm sure your audience, and the hardware developers who put incredible efforts into their design, are all incredibly thankful for your efforts.

The main thing i like about wooting is the software. Everything saving to the keyboard itself, being able to use it in a browser if you dont want to download it. Its so refreshing. All the big companies forcing you to have their bloatware open 24/7 for features is really getting to me.

I agree, I'm still using a membrane razer keyboard, but honestly I've been looking to get a new keyboard not just for better switches, but to say goodbye to the awful software that can be finicky at times and is just 1 extra process added to the startup. I'm also using a Razer Lancehead TE which is great for the most part, but I underestimated how awful an ambidextrous mouse would feel in hand (at least the shape that they chose), the underside of the right click bothers my ring finger and both my ring and pinky finger drag on the mousepad from the way I hold the mouse.

There's another Rapid Trigger keyboard that I don't think is particularly well known because its a newer company, its called the Drunkdeer A75, it uses magnetic switches just like the wooting and features a rapid trigger feature, but lacks the analog inputs of the wooting. Some older reviews of this keyboard are outdated because of how much the software for this keyboard has been developed; Old reviews claim that the keyboard does not have a true rapid trigger, which was true at the time, but the feature was since patched in. I would love to see you test this keyboard because there's not a lot of info out there on it, but I believe it to be an excellent option for anyone wanting a rapid trigger at a much lower price point than the wooting. The one BIG feature missed by every reviewer that Ive watched and have mentioned elsewhere is the inability to save RGB to onboard memory. This is my single biggest complaint. Why? Im a professional software developer and cybersecurity engineer by day, gamer by night. People who shell out $200 for a keyboard likely have a professional job like me. I use a KVM to switch between my 4 computers. I cant install their proprietary software on my work machine and honestly the implementation on my Mac isnt great either. Using some default Rainbow RGB is distracting and unprofessional when I am working. The ability to save at least a single color to memory (Red, Ice or white are my go to for work) would be the game changer for me. I have al the Steelseries Apex pros, the ones that are plugged in do seem to retain color, but none of the wireless ones do that Ive tested. This includes my Apex Pro Mini (I kept this becasue I got a deal) and I tested and returned the Razer mini as well. I think the Wooting may do this but I havent ordered one yet to test. Too impatient to wait for it and not 100% sure I love 60%. Thinking about trying the Azoth as I THINK this saves RGB as well. This isnt that hard as I also do Arduino, electronics, etc. It works on the ones plugged in but not the wireless, probably to save power. For $200, I feel like this should be a requirement.

Just got my wooting the other day and if anyone is on the fence; I ended up pre-ordering the 80he but decided I couldn't wait long enough (was using a cheap keyboard as previous gaming keyboard broke) so decided to also pick up the 60he and was worried I had spent way too much to buy both. Now that I have it on my desk, I have 0 regrets spending £500+ on 2 keyboards (60he was around £170 including shipping, 80he was £350 including shipping due to upgrades). I never realised just how much input lag my previous keyboards had until I started using this. The rapid trigger is awesome and has definitely helped me learn how to jiggle peak as well as general movements in games. It's also the best keyboard for gamers looking to get into custom keyboards too in my opinion due to the fact you can change out the case, modify it relatively easily and there's a few options for switches if you wanted to test them out as it's hot-swappable. Compared to gaming keyboards, it's not only incredible for it's price but it feels incredible to type on without even modifying it (ofc custom keyboards will probably blow this thing out of the water but we're talking gaming keebs). It's like upgrading from a fisherprice toy piano to a grand piano from Bruce Waynes mansion 😂 I never want to stop typing! (as you can see lmao) it sounds beautiful too

@caligaming9386 No, it does not have to run in the background and also the keyboard has a built-in memory, so anything you save or all the settings that you save from the software. They get saved straight to the keyboard, so even if you delete the software or take your keyboard to your friend's house to play, you can just plug it in and it'll load all your macros and all your RGB and rapid trigger settings

I've been using steelseries for over 2 years now, and have never faced it using more than 1 gig of ram. It may have been a bug, or it may have been caused by something looping when programming the keyboard possibly? It could also be due to the new features of the rapid trigger. Testing video ayo? The first page is to see what items are on sale or if they have deals going on, and to get free things for games sometimes. The aim trainer I don't use, I just aimlabs instead, however you download their aim trainer through steam or right in the steelseries software. The reason the keys would've bugged out in the end is because it was programmed to have the rapid trigger probably causing a weird looping bug on the keyboard. Best way I would guess to fix that is just creating a new configuration profile, which would reset the programming on the keyboard to whatever you change it to. Idk if this helps, but maybe worth looking into?

1. you dont need the steelseriesGG to run in the background for rapid trigger to work. you only need to set it up once and it can save your config on the keyboard. 2.Normal arrow keys on the Apex pro mini series can be achieved by remapping keys in steelseriesGG program. All of the keys on Apex pro mini can be remapped with the exception of the function key. Of course you will sacrifice normal keys and switch them into arrow keys. For me I sacrificed right alt/windows/ctrl. And you can still retain those keys with Fn (hiding them in the 2nd layer) if you rly needed them.

Hey, thank you for the video. I need help. I got the apex pro mini wired last week and I didn't use it until Thursday and for the first 15 minutes it felt amazing. But the next day I came home from school and hopped on fortnite and my keyboard wasn't working, so I went to type in the in game chat and my keyboard was spamming random letters and symbols and after I downloaded the software the keyboard was still bugging. They said to raise the actuations of the left Ctrl and shift and after I did that my left shift doesn't work anymore. I'm going to send it back for a replacement and if it happens again I don't know what to do.

my apex pro mini BROKE after 6 months, the W key suffers from something i dont understand fully to be fair. but basically the key doesnt register past 2.5mm (AT ALL) ((IT WILL REGISTER UNTIL THAT POINT IN ITS ACTUATION)) AND holding my finger on the w key at 0.1mm causes it to do 406 cps on a click speed test when setting the W key to mouse button 1 ALSO frequently i would realise that the W key gets "locked" causing it to pernamently stay ON, unplugging the keyboard "bricks" my entire OS because everything (literally) regardless of what keyboard im using becomes a shortcut and i need to restart my pc theres no way to stop the W from "clicking" on its own. Steelseries quality control has been absolutely horrible. in the span of 2 years ive had to return 2 mice and 1 keyboard because of issues that happen literally after around 6 months on average

I have Apex Pro TKL Wireless, it's a really great keyboard. I had a Razer Huntsman Mini (red switches) before it for a short time, and it's also very nice little keyboard, but 60% layout isn't for me. The lack of arrow keys was my main problem, and the reason to sell it.

Had a wooting 60HE but as soon as I saw steelseries had a tkl keyboard that’s wireless AND with rapid trigger I jumped on it because I was just tolerating life with a 60%. I'm mildly surprised that Wooting didn't have rapid trigger trademarked in some way. Considering it's almost their highlight feature. It would make sense for them to have trademarked it given that steel series is just calling the same feature the same thing, it doesn't look like they did. To be clear this is trademark versus patent. A trademark would not stop steal series from making the same feature. It would just stop them from calling it the same thing. But maybe there's some other background info I'm missing. Like if there's an even older company than wooting using rapid trigger that might prevent a trademark or wooting just doesn't feel like trademarking it, which is fine.

My old SteelSeries keyboard (Apex Pro TKL I think?) would cause bluescreens with its sshid.sys driver that didn't seem to have updates available (and disabling the driver would disable the keyboard). Took me several Windows reformats and whatnot before I finally troubleshooted it with WinDbg Preview. This, plus the issue you had with the first keyboard, makes me believe that SteelSeries has some QC stuff to work on.

Seems like a no brainer for Razer SteelSeries etc. to just recreate the wooting's features 1 to 1.
