In my basement, I found an old camp stove I've had for over 50 years but had long forgotten about. Gave it a good cleaning and put in some fresh white gas fuel, and poof... it worked !! The camp stove was made by Optimus and it is the 8R model.

I had one of those little stoves and a tin cup that I heated soups and water up in when I camped back in the 80’s. Wish I could remember where mine went to. Nice video down memory lane 😎👍

For me, I'm amazed at the stuff I find and learn whenever I research a subject, and I don't even have to go to the library or use encyclopedias anymore... research used to be time-consuming, tedious work... do you remember those days ? 🧐😄 Thank you, Eric. I always appreciate your comments and thoughts. ✌️☺️👍

I found mine at a Goodwill outlet in an old orange backpack that had mildew all over it. Had never even heard of it but was glad I opened that bag to see what was inside. I got some fuel and fired it up! Works great and mine even had the original instructions inside! Thanks for your video!

Oh please never face that fuel cap towards you! It’s got an overpressure relief function and if it gets too hot it will pop, sending an impressive jet of fuel right at you. Now that I got that out, it’s a delightful and reliable little stove, isn’t it!?! Nice video!

It is pretty cool this little guy still works but mainly that you still have it. We have a rule around the house that I try to follow as much as possible ….. every 3 or 4 years we go around the garage, shed and crawlspace and if we come across something that hasn’t been used since the last blitz it will get donated, sold or trashed. Well done amigo ! Greetings from Calgary, Alberta.

still use my optimus 22 (its a dual burner stove, like two 111s put together) Rather big in comparison to 8R but i just cant stand non pressurized stoves - i had one and it was real hassle to get going.
@SpyderWayne
@SpyderWayne 7 ай бұрын
Yeah, this litrle 8R is a bit of a hassle to light. Back in my early teens when we were backpacking, this was considered 'big', carrying the small sterno cans was more popular, but this suited my needs back then and gave me hot meals. I was amazed that it still worked after all these years 😁👍

So will that reappear as an integral part of the Spyder camping gear?
@SpyderWayne
@SpyderWayne Жыл бұрын
Not an integral part, but an additional non necessay piece of gear, a backup for cooking. Last year at VAMM22, I arrived and setup camp and couldn't cook anything because I had left the propane hose at home attached to my buddy heater that I didn't need to carry with me in July. I needed that hose to attach to my 5 lb propane tank. With this long forgotten tiny camp stove added to my arsenal, I will now have a backup method to cook a camping meal if my primary stove fails to work for any reason 😁👍
