The fact Robosen was able to take the techno-magic they had in their original Optimus Prime and shrink it down into a small package is just amazing. I was fortunate enough to get the original at the smaller price so I'm good. The big question is if they will release a smaller trailer for the second version. As a G1 fan, I say get the one you can get because either way it is a win and you are owning an incredible piece of Transformers history. BTW a Robosen Soundwave would be amazing! You killed it again Bridget! Thank you.

I remember my dad taking my brother and I to Toys R Us when the original Optimus Prime and Megatron were released. They were $30 bucks each, while most other transformers cost $20. Optimus Prime came with the trailer too. I got Optimus, my brother got MegaTron. We had battles for days, such good times! These versions of Optimus take things to another level. I think I like the smaller one more, it reminds me more of the version I had when I was a kid. This is bringing back so many awesome memories.

It's not actually cheaper tho. When the original was released, if memory serves me correctly, it was around $700-$800. So all they did was raise the price of the bigger one and give you the smaller one for the original's release price.

So, everyone is asking, who would buy this? Me, a mother of a son who was so obsessed with Transformers, when he was 4 years old. I saw this CNET presentation and “loved” the EXCITEMENT she showed. I'm really impressed at how far technology has come between the original Optimus Prime toy from 1984 and this. I agree that a Decepticon should be next. Maybe they manufacturer can pull off Megatron ... although they'd have to make him transform into a tank instead of a Walther P-38 for legal reasons.

Greetings, I am 52 years old & watching this review was AWESOME!!!! Being a die hard Transformers fan I just saw this video at 1:30 AM & I bought the set at the Hasbro site 1:45 AM. Also, a Mojor deciding factor was the presentation by Bridget, "Great Job". Even the way the app plays the original music in the background is great. How awesome would it be if they made an Alexa Soundwave or a remote control Grimlock that get the mail!!!! I cant wait for them to arrive, Transform & Roll Out!!!!!

Just in time for Christmas. It's brilliant, my god. So cool. It's funny because I clicked because the title reminded me of the news stories about the original toy from the eighties. For some reason they had a news story about Optimus Prime being the biggest Christmas toy but not being able to stand up on his own. For some reason the news agencies had people convinced this was somehow significant. I never put it down, hahaha. Also, I seem to remember being able to stand him up too. Semi trucks with sports cars rolling out of the trailer on the freeway where a very popular theme in the early to mid eighties.

I saw someone selling the original movie props one selling for $300 for a two pack. The two lead toys. Major Chiphazard and Leader of Gorgonites Archer. They are not robots but they do have sound and Archer can fire hus arrows. Still pretty impressive for those times.

Making it smaller might actually cost more, really, since the mechanics would be tinier and would likely have to be built with more premium materials to prevent it from breaking easily. I can see them making bigger ones that are cheaper, maybe a bit more plasticky but geared towards kids... but they'd have to figure out how to make it safe for children because I can just see a lot of kids getting their little digits trapped between the rather sharp-looking edges when they transform, which at worst might cause some nasty pinching/cuts, but at worst someone could lose a finger. I mean, I would hope the motors aren't so powerful that that would happen, or have sensors that ensure that the transformation doesn't complete if something is in the way, but definitely things to consider when making toys for children, not adult children. ;)

Way back when I 1st ordered him I talked to one of the guys at Robosen about doing a soundwave . I also told him that it's a bad idea to do any other Transformers that in G1 sense most of the people that are going to buy this are going to be adults. He told me a few things about what they're going to do. So I'll keep that a secret like I promise. But I told him that he should do soundwave with a LCD screen in Front where you can purchase episodes from all the Transformers series and watch them right on him. also make him an mp 4 player. I'll be doing a video on him soon . I just did the war for cybertron unicron.

Okay, I've been following news on these figures for a while, so for those curious, Robosen pulled a not-so-slick one on their customers with this new robot. In this comparison, she stating that Robosen is selling the larger version for $1,000, whereas the smaller is being sold at $700. While this is true, it's crucial to mention that the original larger version of this figure was released at $750 only a year ago. It wasn't until just a few months ago that Robosen jacked up the price of the original up to $1,000, then released the smaller version at $700. They're trying desperately to make it look like it's $300 cheaper, when in reality it's only $50 cheaper than the original, and not worth the cost . Moral of the story: I'm pissed at Robosen, and you can find him cheaper on any other website besides theirs lol.

I love the robot but the problem with all products like this is that if they stop updating the app then most of the functionality is lost. I have an R2D2 from Hasbro that is basically a paper weight after they refused to update the app after an Android update broke it - this is on a product just 2 years old!
