How did you find the front visibility? Especially when approaching a flat surface. Were you able to clearly see and gauge the distance or did the parking sensors do that for you? Just curious

About the gauge cluster display: You can program it. You can program it to show far less information; thus less distraction from the clutter of superfluous information.
@mrxman581 Жыл бұрын
I sat in the new Prius and had no issues seeing the gauge cluster. You're supposed to position the steering wheel so you see the cluster over the steering wheel. I could tell from the driving section that the wheel is positioned higher up. It actually looks a little weird to see the steering wheel that high. I have a 2004 Prius and the wheel is positioned lower. It's not adjustable. I'm almost 5'-11" and have about 2-3 inch clearance from the top of my legs. It's always been a very comfortable driving position
I think they are just playing the scarcity game to control the market and overprice their product. They know Prius have what we are looking for: Fuel eficiency

Great review! I’m going to watch your video on range now too. As a long time and current Prius owner, I can’t believe I’m actually considering swapping out my 2021 Prius with this beautiful 2023. I’m much more practical than that, but it’s really come a long way. And finally a Prius with cooled seats…Amen!!

Good to see that Toyota is still including that Panasonic made evse (charger). With an adapter, that unit will work on 240v, providing twice the charging speed that it does on 120v. My 2018 Honda Clarity came with that same evse which I still use today to charge my Jeep Wrangler 4xe.

Sure like the new design. The side view is beautiful. The wheels look they are in motion just sitting there. A very nice and sporty looking interior. I am surprised that they blew the instrument cluster placement. Seemed to handle and drive fine and was fairly quiet. Thanks for another great review.

Great review as always guys! This is the first Prius that I would consider owning and it is by far my the best looking model as to date. I am so glad Toyota finally realized they did not need to make it so quirky to be a great hybrid. Great job guys!

The first thing that I acknowledged and concluded about the 2023 gauge cluster when it was first revealed, was that the instrument Cluster, was designed that way to minimize the distance your need to take your eyed off the road; it is in your line of sight; it is design to mimic a HUD, without an actual HUD. Therefore the set up is not to look through your steering wheel but over the steering wheel. and this was confirmed by the designers at Toyota. Technical I will say, people that complain about it being to far away, or that it is in a awkward position, just want to complain about it because, they are programed and is to accustomed to looking down and through the steering wheel to read gauge cluster. Do people used their hands to interact directly with their instrument cluster as they do for the infotainment system?
@CarConfections Жыл бұрын
The thing is, while we could lower the steering to it's lowest setting, that is not a comfortable way to drive. Only allowing for one seating and steering position that can see the gauge cluster even though people are all different sizes is a poor decision on Toyota's part
@neilsar1 Жыл бұрын
I've owned three vehicles with a heads up display which can be adjusted for your line of sight. Prius's gauge cluster should always be in a driver's line of sight to fulfill its purpose.
@superlight47 Жыл бұрын
@@CarConfections I do think they could have make it adjustable, and I often wonder why they did not do that, given that fact as you mention that there are people of all different sizes. I have not sit in it as yet, but I do like it and believe it practical design, it just need some flexibility with adjustment. Let us hope they improved its on it next refresh.

About the gauge cluster positioning : no one looks at it from the same height of steering wheel, unless driver is a midget. You should look at it with the camera at your eye level while seated at driver's seat. Seated eye level of an average person - from 5'2" to 6'1" tall.

Always look forward to your reviews. The gauge cluster might be a deal breaker for me. If it had been mounted on the steering column and could move with the wheel, that would make a significant difference. BTW, thanks for doing the decibel rating, especially since you had technical problems with the rating for the Prius Hybrid! Keep up the great work!
@CarConfections Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Neil! Definitely try it out for yourself if you can, but for us the only way we could see the gauges resulted in an uncomfortable driving position. Glad we could get an official reading now 👍

Great review guys, as usual. Just curious, are you guys doing the sound level check on the same stretch of road for each car? Different roads, and sometimes even different stretches of the same road, can have varied surfaces, which can make a big difference in the noise level. If it is not the same exact stretch of road, then the data collected would be fairly useless, in terms of being able to rely upon it for a vehicle to vehicle comparison.
@CarConfections Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The majority are, or on a surface judged to be equally smooth by us. Sometimes we are testing cars out of state so we have to do that until we test again in KY 👍

Not sure why everyone complains about the instrument cluster above the steering wheel. I like to have the wheel as low as possible, it's much more comfortable that way, and also raising my seat a bit to see more of the road. I have a 2015, and finally acquired an XSE Premium version of the 2023 that will be in my hands by the end of August, I doubt I'll have any issues or complaints with the instrument cluster. Insane markup of $6,000... but im going to keep it for 10 years so whatever.

$5000 markeup on the Prime here in Socal, Tesla model 3 is way cheaper with the tax break. Compared to Hyundai Ioniq 5 and KIA 6 to Tesla's Model Y, Model Y seems like a better deal too.

I sat in an SE at the dealer and had no issue with the display. I think it may be influenced by seat and wheel position. The 19inch wheels on lousy NY roads is just plain stupid. A lot of downsides to that bling look.
