Dear Mr.Ellison, I have been following Oracle's growth and I have admired / followed your work for year's. I belive Oracle to be the best software solution in the world period. On this note, I think that with the correct equation's Oracle could compete and very well over take AWS. I have conducted an social experiment and I have found that the majority of end user lean toward AWS due to three exact causes. 1. AWS is Fast, Cheap and Easy. 2. AWS is super super super simple. 3. AWS has a 24 instant support line for there product. 1. I belive that if you took Oracle and refined the software into a more simple version just for cloud computing, something a lot more user friendly, then you would see a very large increase in sales. Worrie about the more comlex systems later in the contract. 2. Offer the best software customer service in the world. 3. Make the Cloud package readly available. No phone calls, no emails, and simple to get started / check out. I belive that the advantages to Oracle are in it's complexities, how ever for a first time user it is to much at first sight. So if you started with a very simple package that is super user friendly, then I belive you would see a significant increase in sales. Eventually, end users are going to reqest some of the more complexe features, so if you were to offer the features in packages this would be a great.

I have been DBA for the last 20+ years, working with a lot of databases. In a relational database, Oracle is definitely the best database and the most expensive too. in NoSQL - Cassandra is. But in today's world data comes with different shapes and forms, no longer normalized or denormalize, just bulk and then comes Hadoop and Elastic Serch, so as you can see one particular database can't be a winner, it depends what you want to do with a data?

This is the mentality an opinion of a CEO, and not of a technical person or DBA. Oracle got stuck in the 2000s. Microsoft SQL is actually getting closer and closer to performance and features that Oracle used to provide, and AWS is changing the industry with their very elastic and scalable model. Yes, Oracle is good, but they need to improve their cloud services. They did not want to play nice with VMware when people start running Oracle on VMs, they deliberated changed their price model, and now they are in denial with AWS.

Oracle is dead, like DB2 and other RDBMS. In big data world only databases with linear scaling will survive.
@mrgerbeck6 жыл бұрын
Oracle, maybe. RDBM is here to stay--many have evolved to adapt. Besides, just in case you weren't listening, the engineers at Amazon chose Oracle over big data databases so...
@MilanVVVVV6 жыл бұрын
Why would RDBMS be dead?
@dmitrylee016 жыл бұрын
That's all nice and dandy but not every data problem is a Big Data problem. Besides, all linearly scalable (which pretty much means - distributed, MPP, shared-nothing architecture) systems have their own bag of problems. There are plenty of use-cases for relational databases, cases that require immediate consistency, HA, network partition tolerance (all at the same time), ACID compliance. That doesn't necessarily mean that Oracle will survive long term as a main RDBMS vendor but RDBMS as a class of storage engines is here to stay, at least in a foreseeable future. PS. As for Oracle's claims of possible future dominance as a cloud DB provider, well, thanks for a good laugh
@RajAmzn6 жыл бұрын
As the amount and variety of data have increased , so has solutions evolved. It's true that the catch-all solution of RDBMS have diversified into NoSQL solutions like Wide-column store (hbase,cassandra) , Document-store (Mongodb,Couchdb) , Redis (key-value) ... There are still some applications and data that is best served by RDBMS. The BIG change in RDBMS world is that open source solutions like Postgres , MySQL , Maria have matured and combined with its price advantage , they eating into the market share of erstwhile king of RBMS Oracle. In sometime Oracle Corp. will neither be the topmost RDBMS company , nor Clould and their ERP is already taking a beating.

ummm....no. Why do you think they created hive in the big data world? To make hadoop more relational for better querying, right?
@nicks81295 жыл бұрын
incredibly good spin, lot's of his comments are playing with context. Aurora is MySQL and Postgres. Oracle bought MySQL - that's why he's saying is Oracle. Aurora is 90% about the wide-bandwidth, very lowly contended highly resilient network fabric underlying the actual dbs. That's how you'd like to run an enterprise database service. Oracle has all that in their entire product offering too. But not so easy to do on the cloud - multi region replication, failover. Amazon can because they now operate quite a few intercontinental tier 1 network links, one of them being the only pan-pacific US-AUS sub cable. He doesn't mention this obviously.
