Hi Ryan! Your videos are really really helpful! Thank you! I just want to point out about question #14. The question is asking for a diagnosis, and e)Malignancy is not a diagnosis itself, of course it was the first thing that popped into my head, but I think it is confusing because of what is being asked in the first place

Thank you so very much for all your help in this pathology video series!!! It really helped me out with all my DD reading and notes. You made it come all together in my head!! In one of the questions you mentioned KOT to be associated with vital tooth but it can also be associated with non vital teeth originating from traumatic lesion? Thanks so much again for all your great videos and effort! Have been recommending you already!!!! My exam is in a couple of weeks! Will jump now to your pharmacology series!!! Best wishes!!!
@mentaldental
@mentaldental 5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the KCOT/OKC could be associated with either vital or non-vital teeth, but I think that's outside the scope of what you need to know for the board exam, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Best of luck in your exam preparation and thank you for the kind words and recommendations!

Question# 9, Steven-Johnson's syndrome is associated with stomatitis, eye lesions, and genital lesions as well. can you explain why it is not the answer choice? Also, #13, OKC is associated with the mutation of the tumor suppressor genes. That would mean that there are chances of its malignant transformation. Wouldn't that be more important to talk about to the patient when compared to the recurrence rates? Again, OKC is an aggressive lesion which means there can be pain involved which also messes up my understanding of question #12. Please explain. I would love to hear the explanations and understand better. Thank you for all the effort! God Bless!

For the malignancy question with the 15-year-old patient… An ameloblastoma can displace teeth, right? If so, can’t that put pressure on the nerves to cause the numbing sensation? Could that not be an correct answer? Just thinking out loud here. Thanks for all the videos!! 🤟

It is very tempting to overthink these questions! Be careful and take a step back when you notice that you are doing that. For the actual exam, that’s a good sign to mark a question and come back to it later with a fresh mind.

Doctor Ryan, @ 23:01 you mentioned that lower lip paresthesia mostly points out to malignancy, I initially chose ameloblastoma since the patient's age is low for malignancies to occur. How do I overcome this confusion sir?

Thank you for the great videos! A question about #9 .. If I remember correctly, don't both Steven-Johnson Syndrome and Behcet's syndrome manifest as lesions in oral, ocular and genital regions?
@mentaldental
@mentaldental 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you and great question! Yes, I would've preferred this practice question to not include SJS as an option because both can technically involve lesions in these three regions. However, from the board examiners' perspective at least, SJS is viewed as the "major form" of erythema multiforme which more classically involves lip lesions and facial rashes. So the triad of lesions is more "classical" for Behcet's although they can occur with both disease processes. Hopefully that helps!

Dr. Ryan, in question no. 12 what does it mean when we have 2 cystic radiolucencies? Does it refer to a systemic lession? Also, the age in this question is confusing because traumatic cyst occurs in teens.

Thank you so much. Test in 5 days. My question was for #15, I wasn't choosing papilloma bc i didn't think of it in itself to be a diagnosis, kind of like leukoplakia isn't considered one? Maybe I overthink questions

I have a question on the one about the "slimy stroma myxoma." I though in the videos we said that ameloblastic fibroma is also composed of myxomatous tissue so how would we rule that one out? Thanks!
@mentaldental
@mentaldental 3 жыл бұрын
Good point! But, the key to this question is the resemblance to "dental pulp," which points to the odontogenic myxoma. There are several other distinguishing factors between the two, including radiographic appearance (the myxoma is generally more "messy" whereas the fibroma is a "cleaner" radiolucency).

Thank you very much.. Can I ask you a question? I remember a question in a previous exam asking about the histological type of melanotic macule that is most likely to change into malignancy? Was it the junctional, compound or blue type?

Of the melanocytic nevi, the dysplastic nevus is most likely to transform to a melanoma.
