Well, when i did my orange belt grading they told us to punch 3 times (jodan) then turn (mawate) then punch 3 times (chudan) then turn, we then did the blocks, 3 time age uke, 3 time uchi uke, 3 time suto uke, (turning inbetween), we would then proceed to do mai gerri 3 times going up chudan then turn and 3 times going down jodan, we then moved into space and did kihon kata. you would stand still as they wrote stuff down on a peice of paper. For anyone going through there grading i have some advice, You cant be brave unless your nervous Every single person who graded for orange belt felt the EXACT same way as you And dont worry if your not very good at kihon kata or any of the blocks or kicks, when i graded i saw really bad people passing there grading, the higher belt you get the harder the standards are, my brother completely fluked his grading yet he still passed, Good luck on anyone grading

Remember to say kiai at the end, if you don’t then it’s the same as not finishing it all.

Uchi uke is actually outside to inside and Soto uke is inside to outside

Thanks for your comment, you are correct, but it varies from Dojo to Dojo. The full blocks names are 1. Uchi ude uke which translates as inside forearm block, some groups refer to the inside as starting close to the body and traveling from inside to outside, other groups refer to the inside as the inside part of the forearm so it travels from outside to inside. 2. Soto ude uke which translates as outside forearm block, some groups refer to the outside as starting away from the body and traveling from outside to inside, other groups refer to the outside as the outside part of the forearm so it travels from inside to outside. So both ways are correct. I have trained extensively with a shito Ryu master and he refers to the blocks the same way as you. :) Oss
