Bruce, awesome job finishing the day off! I was in a group with you in the beginning before the rain and pretty sure I gave you a bottle at the 138 checkpoint. Also, do you have any other pics or video on the day. I can just catch a glimpse of me at 3:10 of the video (pink jersey/black helmet). Would also love to hear more about the Cushcore inserts. Bike for this year only has 35 mm clearance on the back. Ran 40’s on a borrowed bike last year without inserts (and without incident) so hoping an insert will get a 35 through the day unscathed.

Helpful hint for mounting challenges tires is using talcum powder sprinkled inside the tyre after you’ve mounted one side on,or hand sanitizer as it evaporates but only for the last section prior to finishing the mounting…and just roll in over the rim..tends to work for me 👍🤘🏻nice review btw

I think I want to upgrade from a Hybrid to an Orbea Terra in Spring 2024 for my first gravel bike. Local shops kiiiiinda carry them (but not in colours I love). Also can’t afford the higher end models, I’ll get aluminium (H30 or H40). But how important is a professional ride fitting? I want to buy at a local shop but idk if they’ll have one.

And I grin and really enjoyed your race recollections, the day when Bruce busted loose on his Orbea in Kansas. And thanks for thinking highly enough about the experience to tell us all about it. Did you have any issues with seatpost creaking? The seatpost wedge design- the way how bolt is pushing the wedge - is really ... weird. In my case it seems that seatpost moving back and forth makes the wedge trying to slip against a bolt and it looses the tension.

At time 8:11 he said he have the trie plugs in case of a flat but then he says the frame tube holds two tire tubes . So why have tubes if you have plugs for tubeless ?

It's always a good idea to carry both in case the plugs don't seal or you lose too much sealant for the tire to seal up again.
