The orbits in lore are mainly to deflect blaster shots, confuse the enemy, switch forms, flow into attacks or speed up attacks I think. So in Star Wars terms its useful but in real life terms you dont really need it, but it can be used just as much. Though you could get strikes easier since you can't use Force fore-sight to see the opponents attack

I don't know about you guys, but when I spar with my friend (who is much better then me) and she does that, I literally get confused and disoriented because of how fast she does it and because of how the light looks when she does it and how badass it is. It's for short, very intimidating.

I feel like most star wars fans highly underrate the effectiveness of a skilled spin. I use a saber staff from time to time and have only been beat once, all my friends say it either scares or distracts them when I do the different spins and before they know it I've hit them like 5 times already 😂

Wow after all the tutorials this one helped me the most, I kept putting it behind my back instead of simply just rotating it

That is actually possible to do with a rope as well, proving that at least some techniques are possible in the form of a lightwhip. you can just pick up a rope yourself and try out different lengths and see what fits best :)

If you do find the blade forced toward the rear, would it not simply be more effective to void the leg and switch your stance? If you are so easily moved, I should think an alternation of tact should be called for anyway.

In any case, this sort of flourish seems somewhat pointless to me.

He uses what are called Ultrasabers. He might also use some saber forge blades, but I believe for the most part, he uses US's.

So what if orbiting doesn't have any real use in combat? It's still good exercise, and fun to do. Choosing to zoom in on the behind the back part was stupid though. You can see more from the wide angle. In spite of this I still managed to confirm that I was doing it correctly. It amazes me how so many people have this huge problem with orbiting though. Like pointing this out makes them so much smarter than everyone else. I mean is anyone out there actually stupid enough to think that twirling the thing in the air would be beneficial during a real fight? Lightsabers are fictional weapons people! FICTIONAL! No matter how seriously you try to take them you're still playing make believe, and make believe is supposed to be FUN! So the rest of you can ride your high horses if you want, but I'm going to keep orbiting my ass off.

This flourish has absolutely no use in a real duel whatsoever and we are talking about fairly realistic dueling circumstances within the limitations of a fictional weapon yes? Any instance in which it did "something" cool is complete dumb luck and likely not to replicate intentionally. The truth is the weapon should always be between you and your opponent or in a ready/chambered position. Now, I'm not saying this doesn't look badass because it does. all the flamboyant stuff you see in the movies is there because real swordsmanship is not pretty. It's efficient, deadly and over in 1-3 sec. This would not make for good cinema. Now, for goofing off or doing choreography I too like this flashy stuff. It's fun. You do a great job in this video showing people how to get this awkward move down. Took me several tries years ago when I tried it after watching it in the prequel films. And again, your videos are entertaining. ty

+Braven Kirok This is an exercise to help groove shoulder, elbow and wrist mechanics as well as basic weapon handling. I find those things to be very useful for swordplay. DN
@gehtkeinenwasan29288 жыл бұрын
+Braven Kirok I generaly agree. But where i see the problem is that flourishes are just used wrong. They existed in historical swordfighting, but not as a attack or block but to show of while beeing in a safe distance to probably impress your enemy or people watching. So its more a thing to show your confidence and presicon with your weapon. My second critic is that your weapon shouldnt be allways between you and your oponent. Its should be in a position where you can move it in quick enough to deffend your self. Where the weapon should be depens mostly on the weapons agility and hilt type. If your hand is very unprotected it shouldnt be in your enemies reach while resting, if you have a very quick weapon with good hand protection, like a sabre or rapier it sould be in front of you most of the time. But there are still a lot of techniques where you take it back, for example too fool your enemy. To come bakc to the topic of starwars i think you cant realy compare it to real fighting due to that face that jedi/sith can use the force and therefore can pull of impossible stuff. But i still agree that it is (even when possible and safe) jsut inefficent.
@bravenkirok31428 жыл бұрын
i said the weapon should always be between you and your opponent. i did not say it should always be pointed at them. there is a huge difference. the problem with lightsabers and fantasy in general is you can just say, "magic" or "force" to justify whatever silliness you came up with and that works just fine. however, do not compare real world replica lightsaber "glowstick clubs" that have real world physics and limitations and try to make some sort of real martial art out of them. stage combat? sure, no problem. just do not try to pass it off like it's going to really win you a fight. not that these instructors are doing that exactly but people take what you say as gospel so be careful what you make people believe. truth is people like myself who study historical, death dealing swordsmanship would create most boring choreography possible because we would kill our opponent in 1-3 sec. if we did not we did something wrong. end of line.
@bravenkirok31428 жыл бұрын
fyi, i really do enjoy stage choreography. it is an art in and of itself. i simply separate it from martial arts and point out the distinction.
@gehtkeinenwasan29288 жыл бұрын
Braven Kirok But your weapon shouldnt be allwas inbetween you and you opponent. If you take styles that share some similatities to lightsaberfencing like military sabre fancing, medieval arming sword, longsword or katana there are many stances were you take your sword back. i would even call it somewhat essential to use such tactics. it gives you possibilities you otherwise dont have like certain strikes or fooling your enemy into a thoughtless attack, or even stuff like resting your arm. (im talking about having most of your weapon and your hand behind you if you are talking about the most forward point of the weapon i somewhat agree and just missunderstood you.)
