After trying out the very impressive Pacific Northwest, Iceland and Tasmania Orbx free trials I was sold on FTX Global, and it's definitely paid off. Been flying in Egypt, San Francisco, Manchester and Beijing and they all look fantastic. Maybe not entirely unique but absolutely more authentic than they are by default. I have to make myself hold off the spending but I look forward to getting Vector and OpenLC as well for the improved coastlines and varied terrain. FTX Global does do a fantastic job though in making the world more natural to fly in, and doesn't feel incomplete. If anything it's hard to believe that it can be refined even further with Vector, OpenLC and FTX England.

+Dave Grennan Glad you enjoyed it and found it useful Dave. I feel that the complete Global experience with this added to Vector and one of the Landclasses is a very good experience particularly if one tends to fly at lower altitudes, but...... To get the best out of Global (using all the components for a continent), it becomes quite expensive and for those who fly airliners at flight level nosebleed, that same money can buy quite a few very high quality airports. Thanks for the support, Rich :-)

its a niche market so they can charge whatever they please for it.
@jamiedavinci13287 жыл бұрын
It's a niche market, which, to give a proper answer, means less people are paying to cover the time that the developers put into making the addons, so a higher price per customer is needed to draw a profit. By comparison, say, a car pack for a racing game is much cheaper, but they can push it to a far larger audience. One could also argue that a single aircraft, modelled inside and out with a fully operational cockpit of many buttons and switches, is far more complex to create as well than a handful of relatively static and uninteractive ground vehicles for your average racing title. Similarly, addons like FTX Global need to be applied and tested across the whole globe, which takes a fair amount of development time.

Good video. To sum up the question one only needs the ORBX FTX Region Pack to get all the features that are not specific to the separate Global add-ons if they decide to limit themselves to VFR type flying in a specific region. Then it is worth buying. ORBX FTX Global is not needed if one just buys the FTX Region like NA Pacific North West. etc. The regions are the full meal deal if you choose to fly within the regions which are fairly large for most flights which most simmers often can`t find time for. Furthermore, the FTX Region Packs are more affordable and have additional mesh, more features and detailed airports. Whereas the Global add-ons do not even if you buy all three; Global Base, Land Class and Vectors. Otherwise the Global proposition is very expensive and requires all the rest to anti up. Regions contain all three former add-ons (limited to region) plus extra features the former do not. In answer to your question--No, it`s not worth buying FTX Global for the casual pilot at standard price. You might as well buy New Gen FS Global Mesh and be done with it. Use the money you will save for a new GFX Card. Having said this, If your preferred region is not available by ORBX then you are out of luck.

Thank you very much! You did a professional job with this video. I am currently in the planning stages ( that is, getting a new computer system) of entering the world of FSX from 10 years of using FS9 with my old system. The default FSX scenery is much better than FS9 - that alone is worth the price of admission. :-D
@flightsim48110 жыл бұрын
Yes although fs9 is more stable than fsx. If your system is focusing on fsx, the processor is more important than a high spec graphics card. FSX appears to like Intel more than amd from what I understand.
@Jeff_The_Weatherman10 жыл бұрын
flightsim481 Thanks for the info. Here is what I am "planning" to get: Quad-Core Intel i7-3770k 3.5 Ghz (with 3.9 Turbo), 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GF 660 2GB card. All on a ASUS P8H77-V LE Mobo. I hope it is enough for good frame rates with the FSX "Ultra Realistic" Scenery setting.
@flightsim48110 жыл бұрын
As the add ons have become more complex, the scenery more detailed and fsx has remained 32 bit, even some high end systems cannot run at ultra settings. The forums are full of people looking for the holy grail of high fps ultra settings performance. I am no tech guru so I avoid recommending system advice because it can cost a lot of money which is not mine to spend. There is a big difference between a £30 add on and a £1000+ system. I spent a lot of time reading around before closing the components for my system. On face value the system you specify will run fsx, but I don't know what performance you may or may not achieve. Sorry if that doesn't help much.
@Jeff_The_Weatherman10 жыл бұрын
flightsim481 Oh, it helps for sure. It confirms what I have been hearing on FSX forums. Probably in 10 years from now, people will still be seeking the holy grail for FSX max performance. However, I have heard from tech gurus in the forums that my system will run FSX default items fairly well (maybe even 60 fps in some cases), but the add-ons will slow it down some. Seems like ORBX FTX Global (from what I have understood in the last 48+ hours) is still the most affordable scenery to replace FSX default scenery - given that it covers the globe. I have been eying videos of Mega-Scenery Earth 2.0 today. Wow...it is nice, but at nearly $42 USD for each US state, that can get expensive. $270 just for my region.

Hi, I have just watched this video after reading an article about ORBX FTX Global. First of al let me congratulate you on a very informative piece of work (and your flying was not too bad either.) I could certainly see the massive difference between the default FSX scenery and this one, maybe because I knew what I was looking for! Your video certianly gives me food for thought as I have quite a few scenery and airports already installed for the UK ie, Just Flight's Real Scenery X, Horizons VFR Generation X, UK2000 Heathrow/Manchester extreme and I would be concerned in loosing those or part of those to have this instead maybe there are work-rounds? That being said, this is worldwide and I love flying low over America and Europe, this looks as though it might be amazing for that and even open up places like New Zealand and Asia for me. I believe this is much better when used in conjunction with Global Vector and their Open LC. I already have ORBX CanadianPacific NW and so if it ends up looking like that, well Wow is all I can say. Frame Rate looks good on this too. Looks like you sold it too me! - Your video seems to have a couple of glitches, ie just black (but sound OK) when starting 'Welshpool' on both occasions for about two mins and of course your Fraps frame counter was not there but it did not really detract from the message. (ps I have XPlane-10 too) So my very grateful thanks, Herb
@flightsim48110 жыл бұрын
Herb Riddle Many, many thanks Herb. As I said in the video, this is designed that it can be used alone, but is intended to be used, as you say, with Global Vector and LC. I think the 'regions' are higher specifications than the Land Class product on its own. An important point is that area scenery can't be combined with FTX scenery, but airports can because of the scenery hierarchy. For example, I have London City X installed and it works fine. Sometimes the boundaries can be a little 'awkward' but I have seen occasional messages on the internet about blending the edges of airports into surrounding terrain.
@richardgraham655 жыл бұрын
The GB Scenery is extremely good - You have 3 separate downloads, South, Central and North. It makes a massive difference to the experience, it is even streets ahead of ORTHI4XP scenery and is a lot more resource friendly. The files are about 20GB each to download, so you have 60GB in all. (They cost about 35-40 AUD each)

Good video. When you say spend some more pounds and buy some London scenery in order to make it real look like London. Why not just buy the London Scenery and skip the orbx? I'm new to sim so sorry if the question is a bit weird.
@flightsim48110 жыл бұрын
ORBX Global improves the worldwide scenery beyond that of the default FSX scenery with better use of ground and building textures and new seasonal and lighting effects. As per their website, it can't be used with other scenery add ons which update or change the area textures. So scenery such as London Extreme might not work well, bit individual add on airports should be fine (according to their website). You could just buy the London Scenery and skip the ORBX, but I don't know what would happen if you chose to try both at the same time.

Vectors tidies up things such as coastlines and roads whilst landclass updates the scenery textures and aesthetics for the terrain (not the autogen I believe). Thank you. I've watched a few comparison videos between ORBX Global and FSX & P3D and the verdict is I would not pay $10US for it let alone $100. There is hardly a difference and sometimes FSX/P3D Default is slightly better. I've also seen reports that removing ORBX products is impossible. I bought a few areas from MegaSceneryEarth and I find it outstanding when flying at 1000 feet and higher, but when closer to ground it is very flat and featureless as it does not use any autogen houses and trees. However it does use non-autogen buildings, trees and other objects. This is a waste of money IMO.

+Sir SavesALot FTX Global has been gradually updated, primarily because of the developments in P3D and it's different file structures in version 2.5 onwards. I'm not sure if that actually includes any changes to how the scenery appears. What I would say is that if you only intend to fly in one region (For example Socal) or several adjoining regions then it may be better (but possibly more expensive) to look at the region sceneries which don't need the Global Scenery elements. What I would also suggest is that to get the BEST effects with FTX Global, it needs the Base pack, Vectors and Open Land Class for the preferred region to all be installed.
@SirSavesALot19779 жыл бұрын
Oh OK, thanks for the info. :) I got the Global last night and I will get the Vectors later on. I got the Trees HD just after, because I didn't like the trees in the base package. I got lots of black trees then and after I had reinstalled both Global and the trees the problem was still there. I had to turn off DX10 to get rid of those missing textures, which was a shame.. @flightsim4819 жыл бұрын
+TheSame04 FTX Global Base is just the mesh or framework upon which other scenery is built/placed and doesn't change the installed textures. Rex4 is just a set of replacement textures where you can choose the appearance of tarmac, runways, grass etc but it doesn't change the shape or layout of the scenery. Active Sky is a weather engine and has no textures. So all 3 are different tools doing different jobs. Personally, if I couldn't afford all 3, I would have Rex4 and Active Sky Next. I would have a look through the forums to see what compatibility problems or performance impact others get on their systems with these add ons though.

The thin terminal extension that the UK2000 airport has is accurate, check out the airport on Google Maps satellite view!

Thanks Mega :-) I wonder if it qualifies for 'thinnest' airport in the world.

Great vid;0) I wonder if anyone can help.... I'm running an i5 4690k (not clocked) and an msi gtx 970 4gb. The difference between this my old PC is incredible, and I've got the fps set to 50. Default FSX, with no ads ons. The one thing that is really annoying is even with a decent system the distant buildings/ trees ect pop up out of nowhere, and doesn't come into view very smoothly. I'm going to purchase Ftc global, and just wondered if this will sort out the problem, or if anyone can advise on what settings to use (even with everything pretty much maxed out, it still happens... Grrrrr)

Dutch Van Hesling, I can't reply to you directly, but Your request is far more than I could manage with my knowledge. The best thing to do would be to read and work your way through this web page: kostasfsworld.wordpress.com/fsx-software-and-hardware-guide/

Your video is poor, it's bad publicity for Orbx because it really doesn't show the strength of FTX Global, especially when you upgrade it with OpenLC, Open Vector and mesh and that's the reason why we have a fool below saying "looks the same to me LOL" Look at this video, it is way more accurate than yours and it shows exactly how default FTX compares to FTX Global or to FTX Global with upgrades: OrbX FTX Global Base+OpenLC+Vector+Mesh (P3D)
@flightsim48110 жыл бұрын
Kmlvox My understanding is that the ORBX products were designed from the outset to be layered, and yes when added to Open LC, Open Vector and mesh the results are absolutely stunning. However, you cannot use Open Vector without the base package and therefore the potential cost implications come into play. The video is simply me demonstrating on my system, the results I had with that particular add on. I do state in the video that they were more impressive for me in the rural areas that I fly in and not so impressive in the built up areas (although still an improvement over standard). I can only assume that the level of impact that FTX global has depends on the area you fly in but then I want to fly in the areas that mean something to me, not just in the areas where a product may have the greatest effect. My longer term intention is to layer up the ORBX products and I will no doubt see a hugely different experience at the end, but my current feeling is that the FTX Global base is exactly that, a base for the other elements to work upon. I'll let you know how I get on. BTW, because of the video links in your comments, KZbin flagged them as spam. I have just returned from a holiday hence the delay in correcting their status to enable them to show and answering them. Thanks
@nosnitsab10 жыл бұрын
Kmlvox Are those other add-ons free? If not, then basically what you're saying - and please correct me if I'm wrong - is that you need to spend an additional $100+ before you'll see the strength of a product you already spent $100 on?
@richardtoshney272610 жыл бұрын
Brian Stinson Closer to $200 I think.

Yes, this link is also very useful and demonstrates perhaps better the other FTX Global packages too. However 'flightsim481' video here demonstrates the UK area better for me and has a real personal touch too.The quality of both serve to demonstrate their points on my 1080HD settings admirably. Worth the money ? - depends on how much you got to spend I imagine! 'Horses-for-courses!' Cheers, Herb

open google earth let sim controll it. cant get more photorealistic. becouse its photos
@Fraiyia9 жыл бұрын
Simulators are really only good to teach instruments and IMC . The flight model is awful, wind, gust , weather . All of that is intense in real life. I suppose if you get a POH , you could learn to fly single engine AC but I doubt sim pilots could start the Cessnas I fly , let alone take off and land.
@jibeneyto918 жыл бұрын
+Veronicca Lakewood You'd be surprised what a sim pilot could do with a real Cessna. And I'm talking from my own experience ;)
@Fraiyia8 жыл бұрын
+jibeneyto well I took a few sim pilots up and they were stupid , couldn't even start up , taxi or do coms , I had one guy who was praying to Jesus when I had em do a power off stall . So what ev man ...
@jibeneyto918 жыл бұрын
I forgot to be more precise: I meant "serious sim pilot". Because virtually EVERYBODY has at some point in their life fired up MFS and crashed a 747 into a building for fun. Regarding better flight dynamics, you could try DCS World. Google it, download it (it's free) and see what your thoughts are on its flight model! :)
@Fraiyia8 жыл бұрын
+jibeneyto I have flown with a few of those " serious " pilots and had em puken in 5 minutes ...they couldn't handle basic flight manuevers and had scary landings . Try a quartering X wind and crab decrab with 25 knots 15 degrees to the left of the field ...
@Spawned-in608 жыл бұрын
+Veronicca Lakewood I happen to be a private pilot, single engine land rated, and not enough free time to fly the real deal. I use Simulators to keep sharp on instrument scan, navigation, ATC phraseology (with online ATC), and using ForeFlight. You're right, real world flying is a heckuva lot different, but take the time to realize that PC simulators DO offer ways to help maintain skills in key areas while on the ground. take care.

your eyes cant detect a diffrance in fps unless it's below 18 fps!! our eyes see the world at an average of 18 fps!!!! Thats the max we can process >.

+chip5620 no
@sadbucket9 жыл бұрын
+Rafal0id if ur saying no because u notice a difference at 18 fps, 1 that was an average for us humans so u could be able to just process more, or 2 you know u set it lower so ur brain is being tricked into thinking there a difference. have a bunny: \)_\) ( ' ;')/ /(")(")
@rafale891409 жыл бұрын
+chip5620 thanks for your bunny. Anyway, a simple Google search proves that you are wrong, and we do not see at 18 frame a second. As a famer myself, I know it, running a game at 30 is not the same as 144. 18fps makes me puke.
@sadbucket9 жыл бұрын
+Rafal0id meh, guess my science teacher was wrong xP all I know is that I can live with 20 fps probably cause i have a shitty pc and am used to it.
@rafale891409 жыл бұрын
+chip5620 I don't think he was wrong, maybe you just misunderstood him. if you always played with "bad" fps, I think it's just that you are just used to it. I have a friend in that case. sorry if I sounded bitter in that first "No." I was tired a that moment, couldn't be arsed to pull a good answer.
