2 different boards indeed. SC is not designed for jumps and big drops due to the shorter length and almost no tail but it is much more maneuverable in trees. Also I believe it provides better float because the tail sinks easier with this V cut shape. Orca is designed for pillow lines. So I would also love to see a comparison between Orca and Mind Expander, although again the Mind Expander has a reverse camper so it's for surfy style.

You guys need to a head to head between the Orca and the Jones Stratos. That would be a better comparison. They are closer than the Storm Chaser

As Kevin is sizing down for the Storm Chaser, and TJ is sizing up for the Orca, does that make a big difference to the comparison? Would that make the Orca almost automatically feel more stable because it's a larger size? Or does it not make that much difference?
@spenserak6 жыл бұрын
They're significantly different boards in the first place, and comparing them seems a bit moot in a way, as they are not in a similar category, other than not being twins - almost like the review is just for content, which is not a bad thing! The SC is far more directional and set back, while the orca is more or less a "regular" board with a longer nose and a wide waist. The stability they are feeling with the orca is mostly due to a more traditional spread of the board under your feet, with a legit tail, while the SC is a powder surfer with a truly small tail, and more rocker incorporated into the profile. The SC is significantly more maneuverable because of the shape & setback, not so much the length. The storm chaser is suggested to be sized down because of the drastic surf-inspired shape that is based on a much different placement of surface area between front & back, and it is also wide. The orca is only suggested to be sized down because it's wide, but "in my opinion" it should be ridden closer to your normal size. I don't think the difference in sizing, in this video, is something to be compared too much, simply because they are so different in design. You could ride a larger storm chaser and smaller orca (let's say orca 53 VS storm chaser 57) and I'd be willing to bet the SC is still more maneuverable, and orca still more stable - again, because of the shape & design differences. They are just different rides as a whole. As they both note themselves, the Orca is much more of an all-around board, while the SC is fully designed as a pow surfer, that, of course, still carves well.

Great scenery and some moments had me scared for you guys. Apples to Oranges? I would have thought it would have been more about your Nitro Pow vs the Storm Chaser. The Orca I'd think would compare against a Jones Mind Expander or Hovercraft.

Love the vids guys! I'll be hitting up Whistler in a few weeks here and from the looks of it, you guys are getting pounded with snow there! I can't wait! Question, since Minnesota never gets any pow, I can't justify getting a pow board. Would you guys suggest shifting my bindings back on my twin board, LibTech T.Rice Pro, in order to naturally add more weight into the tail of the board for all of that pow?

@Blackirish__2 жыл бұрын
Like the yes 420 I rode in Japan it had no feel as it was so short and would come unstuck easier way too nimble I think the storm chaser would be the same. Can't beat a bit of length as stability you can feel what your doing and more control. I have the 158 ultra mind expander which was great in Japan and a great all rounder and after watching this won't downsize especially for a power board but was thinking about it

Hey TJ, how do you think the Kazu compares to the Orca?
@ellstackeradventures6 жыл бұрын
Ya!!!!
@spenserak6 жыл бұрын
Both are similar as far as how directional they are, but there are some significant differences. that are more important. First, the Kazu is camber, so it has a more demanding feeling that wants you to be "on it" most of the time - more locked in on edge, a more powerful pop, and just more aggressive overall... it want's more precision. The orca will float better due to the directional shape paired with reverse camber & wide waist , but should also be easier to ride "slack" because the profile is more loose and playful in comparison, due to being reverse camber overall. In short, they are both directionally-enhanced boards that are great for riding everything, and are meant for a bit more power and aggression, but pretty different flavors & I wouldn't really put them in the same category. Choose the Kazu for a more traditional aggressive board that has an upper-hand in powder, but is good for everything including more aggressive park riding... no frills, just a solid, stable board. Choose the orca if you want the most float between the two, and maybe want to try something different. If you are into riding shorter lengths, the Orca is a better choice because you'll still have plenty of surface area. With the Kazu, I'd suggest riding your normal size.

Hey guys. I have 100kg or 220 punds. Just bought my first snowboard. It's old and stiff. Didn't have the time to try it on real mountain slopes. I thought with my first try I would glide trough the pow like Shaun White but nope. Just got stuck in the snow, 15 inches of it. My question is, is it my weight, the old board or the snow is too much. I cleand up a bit and made a little trail and it worked there. What is next? Saving up for a better board or just go to a real snow park? Or lose weight? Thank youu
@miikkapyykkonen73065 жыл бұрын
With normal snowboard you have to shift weight to back foot and lift up front foot to avoid nose of the board diving. That, or radically changing stance to backweighted or having a board that has rocker/spoonshape in the nose.

@@getnautical9579 I have the Jones ultimate mountain board it is a twin tip board for all mountain riding. In deep powder you will still need to work to keep the nose up. The orca is a very wide nose and a short thinner tail to help you stay on top of deep powder. Not really for riding groomers all day.
