Only if you've passed your so-called best like many have-Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys are two hugely overrated acts this applies to. Others have lost it too, but not OMD of course.

@@kyachdistent1301 Even though Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys are not as good as they were in their heyday, it's an exaggeration to say they are 'hugely overrated'. OMD are certainly not as good as they were in the 1980's either.
@kyachdistent1301
@kyachdistent1301 8 ай бұрын
@@michaeld2519 An exaggeration he says! Sorry, where do you exist exactly. Because since Pet Shop Boy's sodding inception and Depeche Mode 80s run of albums, NEITHER have ever had an even slightly sniffy review of ANY of their damn over-inflated albums. Add to this, not only do they get sickening respect always to the detriment of much better 80s acts than them, but you can't even criticise them naturally on here even, without some idiot shooting it down, which, incidentally, YOU are proving. It's a bloody polite call what I said about them being 'hugely overrated', I should have gone further and call them ridiculously overblown and mystifyingly impervious to even normal criticism, something many other 80s acts are lucky to even get, usually they get just hate! No, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode only ever had a singles heyday. Depress Mode had the best run of the two, and even then, a handful of those singles were duff ('Meaning Of Love', 'Just Can't Get Enough' & wretched 'See You' anybody?) and even then the better ones suffered from basic lyrical input and a rather embarrassing posturing and silly football hooligan vocals by Gahan. And they were never an albums band. Then we get to the 90s and DM's risible dislike of the sound that made them coupled with the desperation to stay relevant in a musically dead new world where crappy grunge/heavy guitar rock was now all over the US, they so ached to make it and keep it there that they morphed into a hideous Cult/Uriah Heap/Poison/Nirvana stew, whereby changing their sound for the worst. 'Enjoy The Silence' apart, every song and album just made things worse, and tuning out from them just became the only way. Duran Duran utterly whipped them artistically with the changing decades and still do, Depress Mode just stay loud, tuneless, bloated and boring, incapable of doing anything under 5 minutes and taking forever to make the point. And lyrically, sonically, visually, OMD were always 100s of miles away from them. Pet Flop Boys were strong enough 80s single-wise ('Heart' excepted, and madogga the vile turned it down to record, gutted Tennant you catty self-important loser!) but then came the 90s and for every single that worked there'd be a 'Being Boring' (how apt, they are!), a 'Go West', a 'Somewhere', a 'Se de Vide' whatever. And they only got worse since 2000s where sod all works. 'Pop Kids' is one of the most arrogant and naff things I've EVER heard an 80s act come out with, and both acts desperate need to stay here instead of just getting lost and stick with their better (of sorts) past just makes them hateful. OMD are NOT better in the 80s. Granted they were great, but even then they still produced "The Pacific Age" album, shoehorning in worse things when better didn't make the cut, and those silly samples of clocks, steamers and voices doing the alphabet, and wasting album cuts with instrumentals, and too few words on some other songs. Some of this is still prevalent, but not much, and they update it, sounding very 80s (in a good way) while recording songs that bash Cowell and 'talent' shows, leaders like Trump and how the electoral process is really run, and the state of the world regarding our so-called superior running of it. DM an PSB should be so lucky, Plus you can't get away from DM, they're like slagdonna, and almost as untalented these days. Their crap gets in everywhere. They should only be known for one or two 80s songs, yet here they all are, including tunes the group have the nerve to be embarrassed by on adverts and everything. God how I loved those few 80s critics that actually hated the group and derided everything they did, unlike now when there's no objectivity at all or accuracy, just unending sucking up to acts that don't deserve it. Not overrated my arse!

It really isn't very good. They have released plenty of music not dissimilar to this over last thirty years. Many OMD fans cannot judge objectively as the below the line comments on You Tube and the Pretending To See The Future book attest. Tales of being overcome by emotion by their music in the book are ridiculous, and I have always thought a lot of their music is very good.
