Excellent information! I hadn’t invested in a ph meter yet because I had been “getting by” without it and I found the online reviews for pH meters discouraging. I will take your earlier advice and go to a reputable hydroponics dealer to find a quality product. Thanks also for your links to Nina’s and Rick’s videos. I love the respect and support of each other that I see in the KZbin orchid family.

depending on your feed, pH adjustment may not be necessary (unless it is very low). If the metals are chelated, they can be absorbed all the way up to 8.0, this is why many fertilizers now use them in a chelated form. More often than not I am only increasing the pH, to 6.3-6.8, in order to better utilize N, K and Ca because I am using a chelated fertilizer.

Hi, I’m brand new to orchids and and bought a bag of the Better Gro special orchid mix. It has fir bark, perlite and charcoal. The bag doesn’t call for the moss. Should I add the moss as well or is it better without it. Thank you so much!

Thank you for your comment. To add moss or not…. It’s totally a personal preference and I don’t use moss or bark. Try it out and see how your orchids respond, it’ll depend upon your environment and how much water your substrate holds into.
