Wow, it looks simple to pollinate if you know what you're doing. It seems getting a seed pod is easy but what you do after is what boggles my mind. 8 months later you drop all the seeds onto some plant agar? I've missed the part how you got the plantlets that you placed on the roots. Interesting how the largest plantlet survived. Did you self the cross ? I think it requires lots of patience but very rewarding. There is a grower near Montreal who also does his own hybrids. Though I never asked him what he does with his seed pods. The orchidarium looks amazing! It looks still quite spacious and it is so cool watching the fog move into the tank. Just a great set up. Those orchids couldn't be happier. Just a great video....thanks for sharing!!!!
@Orchidomania7 жыл бұрын
ResQuetzal ....Thank you very much 😊😊 Always nice and supportive 😊😊😊 I plan on making a video with the sterile seeding from the new cross but it will be a bit delayed 😉 Essentially you have it right, the seeds go on a special media under sterile conditions. As for the baby plants from the first video, it was not a selfing ...if you watch the video you can see exactely what plants I used.

Its the same flower no? I'm getting my terminology all mixed up but I thought that selfing was pollinating 2 flowers from the same plant or in this case the same flower...I'm not a plant biologist!!!! Either way, would you expect the same flower colors and pattern? Woohoo!!! More a 2nd orchidarium...more plants yah!
@Orchidomania7 жыл бұрын
ResQuetzal ...in this video it's a selfing but in the first video ('the unflasking') it's 2 different cymbidiums
@ResQuetzal7 жыл бұрын
Ok....of course (sheepish grin) these plantlets aren't what you pollinated this past summer...yes, I wasn't thinking. Ok...another video to catch up on. Thanks for the info!!!

Beautiful! Thanks for making the video regarding the pollination. Your seedling looks very good! Are you going to do it with bulbophylums too? I would be interested to see it either with tolumnias or bulbos. And your glass box looks fantastic! thanks for sharing. By the way, where is your rare orchid? can you do an update on it, pls?
@Orchidomania7 жыл бұрын
MaryG Orchids ...Thank you 😊 I will do it with Bulbos too when I have flowers again 👍 The rare orchid is in the middle of the box...it has leaves despite me thinking that it doesn't. It made new tiny bulbs...very funny! I will do an update on it too 👍🌷🏵🌷🥀⚘🌺🌼🌻
