Well, I finally repotted all of my Thanksgiving cacti. The smaller ones I did in July and they have new growth on them. My Big Red didn't get trimmed back, divided, and repotted until 8/12, on my daughter's birthday. I wanted to get all of mine into the plastic orchid liners, and in the same size pots I removed them from. I will be shocked if any of them bloom this year, but I'm ok with that. I'm happy they all have fresh mixture and I can remove them from the ceramic pots to water them. I never knew they would be happy in the plastic orchid liners until you shared that with us. Thank you for all of your wonderful advice. Happy growing. 😊💐

Hi Amy, Thank you for sharing your growing tips for these beauties. I have 2 in my collection, the all green and the varigated variety. I'm going to stop fertilizer and just give them calmag and put them in the window sill so they get used to the cool down . Hello my friend! Excellent advice! I totally agree with you about fertilizing and stopping now. I actually do that with all my plants. Too much fertilizer can cause problems. I stuck my hand in Lil Red yesterday to trace a yellowing section and got bit by a spider. I am OK today but not fun! I wanted to say I did repot Lil Red a few years ago in late August or early September. I didn't have a problem but I'm sure it's because she is an Easter cactus and had months before she bloomed again. Blessings on your week Amy! ❤

Hello, thanks so much for the information. I have what I believe to be a Christmas cactus but when I repotted it I didn't realize it wasn't a true cacti so it is in Cactus soil. It has been in that soil for a year and has never bloomed. Should I change the soil now?? Also I have two others which I believe to be Thanksgiving cacti. They were bloomed when I received them and have never been repotted. Should I just wait to repot them at this point? I talk to them to help them grow😂...
@OrchidWhispererАй бұрын
Hi! Don't repot right now...wait till Spring. And succulent mix is fine to grow them in. I have a playlist about Thanksgiving and Christmas cactus care that will be useful to you with lots of topics. Usually when they don't bloom, they need more light. And talking to them is very good for them! :) Happy growing!

Good point about cutting out fertilizer now. My 100 year old True CC was new to me last year and they didn’t bloom, so I’m hoping this year they will bloom. I did twitch from the Jacks formula to MSU and I noticed they loved it. My question is, I rooted two new baby plants from the 100 year old mother plant. Should o also stop fertilizing the babies.
@OrchidWhisperer3 ай бұрын
@@lenorepeloso2378 hi 👋 Lenore! If the baby plants have new growths, you can continue fertilizing for another month or so. But I would stop by mid September, there's really no need for it after that til Spring. Happy 😇 growing! 💐🌸❤️

My sister recently gave me a Thanksgiving Cactus that had been my mom's. My mom died in 2015, and I don't think it has been repotted or well cared for since then. It was definitely very dehydrated when I received it. My sister says it hasn't bloomed for several years. I am an orchid grower and not really familiar with any of the holiday cactus. What type of medium should I top it off with until I repot in spring? Any other tips and info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sherrii
@OrchidWhisperer3 ай бұрын
@@sheiselwilliams1 hi! What I would do is take cuttings and root them in water. That way, you'll have a healthy new plant. Sometimes when they're severely dehydrated they don't bounce back. I use a potting mix with small perlite and extra small Orchiata bark. I think I'd repot this plant, even if it's late in the year, to save it. I've done monthly care tip videos for years...the most current ones are on a playlist. There's lots of info there. You're going to do well growing these cacti since you grow orchids. Happy growing! 😇🌸❤️
