It is true when you get to know the bush a bit, the animals, plants and the rocks around you it becomes a greater experience. That applies anywhere in the world one finds oneself. The wilds and the things that live there are meant to be the main stars of our films. Glad you enjoyed them. Those Nissan Patrols seem to be good trucks, I confess I've never driven one though they are popular and have a good look to them.

More great work guys, lovin' the CGI. I'm really looking forward to the Foreman and Wilms tour of the Californian Deserts. I was over there 18 months ago. We hired a minivan and took 10 days to get from LA to San Diego. In typical Aussie fashion, 1600 miles via Death Valley, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Mojave, and Joshua Tree. Really wish I had more time to spend in such a beautiful part of the world, and to see more than I did through the windshield. (And preferably without the two kids, who were between Disney Land and Lego World). One place that we walked through that really blew me away was a place, that I think was called, the Artists Palette, near Furnace Creek. Like being on another planet (excepting of course the air, gravity and iced Bud Light.) Anyway...can't wait to see the area again through your trained eyes and accompanying tutelage.

Greetings Mark. I'll look into this artists palette and furnace creek, Wilms hasn't even heard of it. We have the Mojave road on the agenda for early April, we bought a discovery 2 but unfortunately for us it looked good but is rotten inside so I'm spending a lot of time on you-tube learning how to be a mechanic. We have taken it on 2 successful excursions so far so there is progress. I generally follow a scientific approach to life but am not without my superstitions, I am feeling that the disgruntled spirit of our new Landy and us are starting to gel and make friends. Your 10 days from LA to San Diego was definitely not a straight run. Its the kind of wonky itinerary me and Wilms would do. Cheers for now.

Our poor old defender is in need of a lot of love after all those miles we put on it. We've got some big excursions in mind for Australia if the chance comes. Your next planned trip sounds great. The work you have put into these productions is wonderful and you should be proud of what you have achieved. I think it only fair and reasonable that Land Rover should come to the party on the Defender, your images are much more inspiring than ads of Range Rovers driving down ski slopes. I also think based on the views and comments your videos generate that Tourism Australia owes you those Lotto numbers. I am counting down the days until I depart on my own Western Adventure and inspired by your incredible wildlife images and commentary, I am assembling my collection of WTF Critter is that reference library. However there are many glaring omissions. None of them mention the Common Dwarf Fat Arsed Wallaby (Comune Magnum Conbusit Parvis Potorodai), let alone its much lesser known relative the Yellow Footed Dwarf Fat Arsed Wallaby (Crocus Pedibus Magnum Conbusit Parvis Potorodai)! I plan on my trip to rectify these many omissions with pictorial evidence for my own WTF Critter is that collection.

I missed going to the Bungle Bungle a couple of years back when following in your foot steps, a friends vehicle broke down on the C S R and we were forced to abandon the trip at Kunawarritji Never got even close to Halls Creek and the Bungles as was our intent. Cheers Bayl's. The hats are an Aussie brand called an Akubra. Wilms has the Coolibah model and I've got the Coober Pedy with small opal attached. There's a web site called hats by the hundred that ship them outside Australia. They are a bit pricey but awesome. Highly advisable to get the next size up for what fits you as they shrink a bit with use.

Gavin and Wilms, this is another outstanding piece of work. Very impressive. And I have to say Gavin, that your wardrobe stepped up a notch in this episode. I feel sure that not far into the future we may see you sporting a Safari Suit, complete with knee length socks and perhaps a distinctively dented hat? :) Whatever you do, don't lose that winning Oz accent and dry humour. Greetings Shane. Our costume crew felt I needed to undergo an extreme makeover but as the budget was a little low a new shirt had to suffice. The safari outfit is certainly not out of the question. As for the cooking segments they will re-appear, I actually have no less than seven recipes from my days as a bachelor giving me a different meal every day of the week until the cycle repeated itself. This system also helped me keep track of what day it was. We didn't want to deliver all of our material in one hit so they have to be spaced out over future films. How to heat up baked beans might be next on the list. An important backup meal for any fisherman going through a slump.

Gavin, Baked beans is the go for bachelors, for sure. I have spent many a long minute expertly coaxing a can of succulent baked beans (only Heinz will do of course) to perfection, before ladelling it tenderly onto buttered wholemeal toast. How a Master Chef could improve on this humble culinary delight is beyond me. I wanted to also make a suggestion about future humour for your sessions, especially your Oz adventures. If you watch some old episodes of Jack Absalom's adventures in the outback (which are really good), you will find a lot of quirky advice and tricks about surviving in these isolated stretches. You may be able to do some tongue in cheek versions of these, or something similar? same for The Leyland Brothers shows. Another suggestion comes from watching your attempt at fixing a flat tyre on one show. I had always imagined, guessing from your appearance and accent, that you pretty handy with all things mechanical........ until I watched you repeatedly pinching the tube! You could either do some more of this type of thing offer some twisted or off-beat mechanical advice from time to time, just for kicks. Just some thoughts anyway. Shane

Well I pushed everything else aside and sat down and watched this whole series tonight. What can I say? This really is some of the best produced stuff I have seen on KZbin and is equal to or better than programs I have seen on commercial TV. I have to wonder if one, or both of you, have had previous experience doing this kind of work professionally. The filming is excellent, editing professional, commentary informative and amusing and the special effects intriguing. Obviously I have a specific bias towards content featuring W.A. so i hope you plan to do more here in the future.

Neither of us have any training or professional experience. Everything is self taught through books, KZbin how to videos, talking to people and tonnes of practice. Greetings Brizzle and Suzie. Best of luck on the imminent excursion into the wilds. When we bought the Interceptor from a father of one of my good friends the trailer came with it. It's more of a trolley really so not road legal but handy for rolling the boat around and can be dismantled. That said I don't know who makes them or anything at all about it. Wilms reckons type in a google search for collapsible boat trailer and sees what comes up. Cheers.

Tis' a big shame the cane toad is there. Ultimately they've hitched a ride & come across in vehicles. I spent time in that region in the late 90's, no toads back then but there was talk of them looming. So did you guys go up Kellys Knob? Awesome view. To this day I still have a set of photos that, when lined up, make a 13 image panorama of the view from atop. Before the days of smart phones, I only had an instamatic...with an actual role of film inside would you believe! For those of you whom pass through Kununurra, avoid the cage bar, that's NOT for you, bistros are best, & keep a plentiful supply of cigarettes on hand when walking through town. This will ensure you make good friends with the locals when you get that inevitable call..."Hey mate...you gotta smoke"?

Greetings Jimmy. I use Maya for most of the 3D work and for titles I have a plug in for after effect called element 3D. After effect has a camera tracker installed that works great for getting CG elements into live footage such as the title fly through. The 3D stuff is great fun but slows down production considerably, I spent nearly a week modelling a rickety cottage for episode 6 that was only in the film for 3 seconds.

Great video. ...Suggest Peale Island, South Arm, Yellowstone lake..... Griz, Moose, Otters. 18" cutthroat trout common. Peale is a 1/2 acre island the government uses to entertain politicians. Only one campsite that opens on July 15. You people make the best videos on the net. And...........Saline Valley Hot Springs....first valley west of Death Valley in California. October the best month. The pass in is high and gets snowed shut.

Greetings Tasman. The bush tucker idea is a good one. We didn't focus on that aspect much as a far more skilled practitioner Les Hiddens had already covered that subject and we already had so much stuff to cut through. Kellys knob sounds familiar but I can't place it in my mind so I'm sure we didn't go there. As for the film camera I invested in a good quality canon Slr only just before the digital ones came out. Slides were wonderful but so hard to do anything with and expensive to produce. There was a lot more skill needed in those days and a lot more money.

Kellys Knob is a small monolith on the very edge of suburban Kununurra. Can be seen from parts of Hidden Valley as this to is located within the town boundary. It's easy to be alone up there & that is the attraction for me. There's also the stunning natural wilderness too. Look closely in Hidden Valley & you'll see faces carved in the rock.

I know the hill you speak of, we spent time at the caravan park near it. I never went up there as I was clambering about in hidden valley. I never saw any carvings there but I did find some old paintings. It's a special place for that doesn't get much attention. I've got a real preference for off season travel myself. Now we're in the states the crowds are now magnified beyond belief. I try to work weekends nowadays.
